    Oi! Annie! I say, Annie!

    I'm on page two. :(:p

I wish it would hurry up and get a bit warmer. I want to get my bee boxes back out. Hopefully they've overwintered comfortably in the side passage. Anyone know when they emerge?

LOL, sorry, on top of everything else I had a massive abscess on a front tooth come up at the weekend, didn't know my face could get that big!, face gone down a bit now but will be getting a 2nd course of antibiotics tomorrow as it's still swollen on the roof of my mouth, but I feel a bit better in myself now, so back to waffling :D
Blimey, I won't be putting any spuds in for a couple of weeks at least, I don't think. It's all still a bit cold.
    Neither will I now.
At the beginning of Feb I lay out an inside out compost bag and old bit of pond liner. Warms the soil and keeps out heavy rain. Last weekend of Feb my first earlies goes in and come out end of May/beg June then either Leeks or courgettes go in depending on space. I replace the bags if there's any danger of a late hard frost but here in London that's once every 20 years.
And now I'm feeling better it's decided to rain over the next few days with snow flurries due poss Sunday :( so at this rate they won't be in for a while so going to do a quick revised planting plan this afternoon.

Weatherwise can't see warm spring arriving till mid April looking at the long term spring forecasts and I've found one that said hot and sunny May and another that said cold and wet, need to find some weather folklore probably more accurate.

Off to sow some seeds indoors using my new mess containment tray from Lidls, who have self watering planters and other garden bits in at present, but not up to shopping yet myself.

Sow far sown and up and awake since last weekend are:
    Tomatoes:
    sub artic
a beef tomato begins with m but cant remember it
    black russian..........thanks to john
    legend
    feline
and another I labelled tomato

I'm sorry you were on page 2. I have nothing to say right now other than IT IS COLD IN YORKSHIRE and I want to plant things. Now. Gah.

Pea shoots indoors will grow fine now.

:( Hope the antibiotics sort you out!

My last frost date is, apparently, early May. I have a good few days of cold to come from Sunday, so nothing will be going outside just yet. Might try a few pea shoots like you suggest though. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Hello everyone, I've just read this entire thread as I am a complete novice and read in another thread that you guys know your stuff, so I hope you don't mind if I tag along. :)

I recently moved into a garden flat with both a front and back garden and would love to grow some of my own vegetables (I'm an avid cook) and maybe even some flowers.

The only problem is I have NO clue where to begin!

I think the back garden is going to need some weeding and general sorting out, but I honestly don't know what to do to it, so I'd be really grateful for some tips...would it help if I posted photos?

The only things I've tried growing were some herbs indoors recently but they died a horrible death, oh and my friend gave me a Jade plant (as my name is Jade) and I managed to kill that, so he gave me another one which so far still seems to be alive...but as you can see I'm a bit of a disaster! :o

But I'm enthusiastic and that's got to count for something right?

    Can I join in?

Need a bit of a push.

Had a walk to the allotment (had it six years or so now) and it needs a good old tidy. The shed, greenhouse, beds and everything needs tidying.

Its all laid out exactly as I would like now with lots of raised beds and gravel between them all.

Got leeks in at the moment. some rhubarb sprouting nicely and onions and garlic which look like they need some growth on them but know from past experience they soon take off when the warmer weather gets here.

My plan for the next week or so is to get sweet peas, toms and peppers into the airing cupboard.....then sons sunny bedroom till warm enough for greenhouse.

Have a week off work next week so hopefully will get to the allotment a few days and generally tidy.

Welcome to the thread. Pictures do help a lot but as you're new you won't be post any yet so you need to waffle a bit more.
Worrying that you killed a Jade plant, almost indestructible. Leave the new one near a window and ignore it for a few months then soak in water and ignore for more moths, repeat through the year.

Where in the UK are you?

Hello and welcome, and get down to your lottie.....loads to do and report back here. Is that a big enough push? ;) I'd get those leeks out and into the fridge, they'll run to seed if left in.

I'm a bit like a bus, no posts for ages then 3 come along at once :rotfl:

    Hi :)

Find out where your sunny areas are, shady areas, wet areas.
Dig a hole and look at your soil - is it claggy (clay-ey), sandy, rocky...?
Try and identify what's already there - be it weeds, old flowerbeds, etc. Remember there might be things that haven't regrown yet.

    Then report back :D

    Greetings. Welcome. :D

Do what Annie said. :p i.e. keep waffling until you can post those photos. And congratulations in reading the whole thread. :T

Which way does your garden face? Do you get plenty of sun?
