Lovely to see new people on here totally agree with MBA only grow what you eat and like and think about space as well.
Sow little and often so you don't end up with a glut of things.
Been able to get into my greenhouse today, planted up a bare rooted magnolia need a nicer pot for it as I don't have space in the ground.
Also got my freebie begonia bulbs that need potting too.
Been so so busy job hunting, visiting family in Denmark and travelling the country with work.
Got a job offer today nice a local but quite low money. Got another interview Monday for a 6 month temp post but its a lot of travel but good money and interesting.
Finally another interview on Weds but might cancel that as I prefer the job offer I already have to that one. Look forward to more greenhouse pottering this weekend.Save £12k in 25 No 49

I feel i have not done much at all, all i have in the garden and down the lotty are onion sets.
I had a go at the parsnips in bottles but none have shown any life yet-off to google how long they take to germinate.
I feel i should be planting more but with all the crud weather coming again doesn't seem to be much point.0 -

Great to see so many new [STRIKE]faces[/STRIKE] names.
Photos please, of what you all have to work with - it's a really good incentive when you see a bit of progress.
I guess we're all stuck with the cold damp weekend (hands up if you've got sunshine!) so I'm going to try and start a few things off indoors or in the greenhouse. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I don't see why you can't grow all of those, with the possible exception of sweetcorn which needs to be grown in blocks as it's wind-pollinated I think. I'm not sure how much space you'd need. I was thinking of giving it a go myself this year.
Peas I think you can get started now. Tomatoes want to be sown soonish, and you can start some seed potatoes chitting. Parsnips and carrots can be sown as soon as it warms up a bit I think.
Annie'll be along in a minute to tell me if I've got it all wrong. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I planted four sweetcorn last year and only two grew. I was a bit worried as I had heard they needed to be planed in blocks but my two survived and produced lovely sweetcorn. The wind must have been going backwards and forwards so that they pollinated each other:rotfl:0 -

Hi, welcome to the addictive world of veg growing. I've grown carrots and parsnips in old recycling bins and pots and they have worked really well. The small chantany (sp?) type carrots don't need too much depth. I also grew strawberries in hanging baskets last year and they worked quite well, plus from an original 3 plants I have about 9 this year as you can take runners off-so good value. Potatoes are really nice to grow, very easy and taste great but they do take up a lot of space so it's worth looking at how much they cost and whether its wor growing them.
I find green beans, the French ones, are really good to grow. Quite easy (unless the weather is like last year again) and they save you lots of money because they're so expensive. Also chillies and peppers save you good money as well as tomatoes. I grew bush ones last year and they romped away with very little maintenance.
Good luck, I can't wait to see some pics and I'm very envious of your rotivator :d0
