Previous years we have had a small backyard - we have now moved and have a nice big back gardenNot a lot of clues how all the gardening work - we have a very lax attitude of plant it and if it grows then great. That said, we always get loads of runner beans, French beans, radishes and chillies.
Planted a few seeds in to pots to get them going before they go into the garden. Will be ordering the raised bed next week and then any seeds that have produced little plants will be put out around 2nd week of May - after the frosts have passed, I hope. We have had a fine sprinkling of snow today so still have some time I think.
So far this year we have planted in pots - French Beans, pumpkins, 4 types of lettuce, courgettes, chillies and cucumbers. we have also gone for runner beans and yes it is early but we usually get a reasonable early crop plus plant more in a few weeks.
Got Beetroot and carrots ready to go in but want those to go straight into the raised bed and the carrots I want to do in a tyre stack to avoid those nasty carrot flies
Loads more we want to do too like Chard, Kohlrabi, parsnips . . . . having to spread the cost a little though as we are starting from scratch.
Looking forward to getting to know you all xAug Comp Wins - :j

You'll be judged via the photos provided:p
As long as we don't have to give prizes John
Sounds reasonable to me Annie as long as it's postal orders or cash only.0 -
I'm going to have to remember how to post photos, aren't I?
Is anyone else growing aubergines, who know what they are doing and can therefore tell me what to do?0 -
Personally my most disliked veg is mushrooms and aubergines so sorry I cannot help you.
I have planted cosmos inside today planning to stick them in the greenhouse later before they go outside. Also sown 5 French beans in n the greenhouse from seeds I dried myself. I know it's early but they may not germinate and , slugs eat everything so I need quite large plants before they can go in the ground.
Prepping for my job interview all done so can now chill out. Had a drink in the greenhouse yesterday to christen it - I am totally in love with it.

It was Little Vics' idea, so I'm sure she'll be happy to forward the entrance fees for both of us.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I saw sweetcorn mentioned-that we grow every year. I normally have a square or more likely an oblong of 8 plants in 3 rows. They get planted very close together. Had no problem with the cobs growing normally get 2/3 to a plant. My problems are badgers if i plant them down the lotty or kids if i plant them in the garden! Have got something off them every year though and even if it's just baby corn very yum!
I got potatos down the lotty yesterday and some in the garden today.
I like to split the risk so if a disaster happens at either i may still have some veggies.0 -
I have now sown leeks, spring onions, tomatoes (16 varieties), peas (for shoots) & celery indoors just to get them started, and some cauliflower in the greenhouse.
I'm due a pretty cold spell so the cauliflower might not germinate but I've got loads more seed if they don't. Most of the other stuff is easily sown again too, I just wanted to see if I can get them started off.
Oh, and some mixed salad leaves too.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

10'x30'?
Mine's 6'x6'.
Yes, I think yours is big enough. Tomatoes, chillies, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines, melons - you have room for them all.
This might help you a bit.
Grow the spuds and onions outside though. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
