Black waste pipe would look better though IMHO.

Oh, I do like it when new people delurk. :D

Welcome. Don't worry about last year, I've yet to meet the gardener that viewed it as any sort of success. This year will be sunny, and all will be wonderful.

Tempting fate a bit there methinks! ;)

if space allowes is there any reason why i cant put a few spuds in the green house ground, thought they might come on a little quicker?

You could always start them in a tub or bag, then move them out when (if) weather warms up to make room for greenhouse crops.

I'm not digging up any more lawn. My garden is finished. ;)

I've got 4 decent sized beds, which should allow for a decent rotation system. Well, it might if I didn't keep sticking brassicas in all over the place. :o I could dig one more bed, but I'm not going to. I think I need a containery-type solution.

I'm also getting a bit fed up of all the recycling tubs I've been using. They served a purpose at first, but nothing does as well in tubs as it does in the ground. Plus, they take up a lot of patio space and get in the way.

I'll keep a few, for radishes, carrots and a few parsnips, perhaps some spring onions, and maybe starting some leeks, but that's all. Probably. :o

I might have to build a strawberry container from reclaimed wood. Something like this. But for a cost of 0p. :money:

Can I exercise a bit of bare faced cheek MrBE?

If you decide to not go with the tubs, can I have if you're going to get rid? Happy to collect - I'll be bowling near(ish) to you starting in a fortnight so would be happy to collect?

    It's cold in my shed.

I can testify to this as I've just spent the last hour in there. The wind blew the door shut and also managed to slide the bolt across. That was a surprise.

I was halfway through taking the window out when my mate arrived to rescue me. Mmmm...freedom. And warmth. :j

Note to self: invent an anti-self-locking device for the shed. :rotfl:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Sorry mate, you'd have to join the queue. Highly desirable, are tubs. :p

Positively bloomin' arctic here. All weekend garden plans out the window when the snow started to fall on Saturday :( Instead spent some time looking at the seeds I've got and what will want sowing indoors soon.

I've been saving plastic jelly pots (Hartley's, sort of tall) and this weekend poked holes in the bottom of them all with a bradawl ready for sowing. I've also been saving egg boxes to start off some smaller things in which I will pot on quite quickly, but I'm not entirely sure what to put in those. Something that starts small??

Need to go out and buy some seed compost. Was looking at the Which? results for this year and the peat-free versions scored very, very badly. Disappointed, I was hoping to go that way.

So, who knows about leaf mould? :D I have two black bin liners that have been bubbling since the Autumn. I don't know how they are coming along, but assuming things go reasonably well and there's some breakdown, what do I do with it? Should I dig it into the top layer of my bed? Or will it do more for me if I dig it into my large containers? Some of my containers are quite heavy with clay because I filled them with stuff I dug out of my patch to get it out of the way :o

Good to see people getting started, fingers crossed for some good weather soon!
