  • Welcome.

    Thank you :)

This year will be sunny, and all will be wonderful.
    Oh, I so hope so!

Yes. It was weird snow too. Looked a bit like tiny polystyrene balls.

We had that weird snow, too. Never seen snow like that before!

Your plot lovely - looks like it took a lot of hard graft to get it looking so good.

It's been so cold - I had plans of getting a few seeds planted in the greenhouse yesterday but once in there I decided the fireside was a much more sensible place to be, so I went back indoors. I'm a wimp!

Will try again today! All I have sown so far are some early peas and some broad beans in modules - I'm itching to get going. Think I will sow some tomatoes and some chilli today, I would like to grow some bell peppers but I think it may be time for me to give up on them :( I've never really had any fruit worth the space I've given to them - teeny, tiny peppers and only one per plant :(

Don't give up! Try harder! :D

What size pots did you have them in? It sounds to me like they may have been too small?

Sow early (i.e. last month!) and get them in as big a pot as you can find. Water sparingly.

I've just sown some "Purple Beauty" that I was given some seed of. Hoping for good results. Mine didn't do that well last year, but this year will be sunny and wonderful. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • I am another who has limited success with peppers and its a shame as I use loads of them !!! Not cheap to buy either.

May try getting a couple of plants when the car boot season starts and put them in bigger pots.

Needless to say with the weather I have STILL not made a start on anything. Makes me feel so guilty when I look at what some of you have got on the go already.

Need some compost to at least get my tomatoes and sweet peas on the go.

Thanks for lovely comments about my plot. :D

:hello: Hello to all newbies here. Kantankrus Mare that plot is so neat and tidy unlike my little garden, but I like organised chaos :D

The sun is out today and I was going to stick a few spuds in buckets but then noticed the pond has a good inch of ice all over so decided to leave it 'till the nights go above freezing. I'm late for me this year anyway so waiting a few more days won't hurt, well, it will do if it rains all day Sunday as I'll stomp around grumbling rather than planting!

Have pri*ked out toms and noticed low germination rate for Ferline F1, but all Black Russian are up :) the rest are average.
Cucumbers just popping through and I've spotted a pea shoot, not bad for a reduced price 15p now out of date box from MrS.

My overwintered chillies are coming along nicely, lots of new shoots and flowers just starting.

Can't remember who mentioned bell peppers, but last year wasn't good for most things. Try again this year.

back to my land issue for a moment - it's getting complicated because OH bumped into a family member today who said they didn't want an agreement, just to be able to use our water supply and electricity when they have parties on the land. I have alarm bells ringing so we're going to get something in writing. The main thing for me was that it wasn't built on, so I'm not entirely sure I want to get involved in some kind of verbal 'agreement' that might backfire.

Anyway, I'm going to sow this weekend for my windowsill! Fun!!

Will they be having parties where you're trying to grow stuff? I wouldn't be having any of that, unless you like trampled parsnips and weed-on lettuces.

Fairly sure carol on the beeb this morning said it was going to get colder next week...

Means I'm unlikely to do anything before the 22nd/23rd if so...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

  • Well I made a start at long last!

Tomatoes.sweet peas, sweetcorn and coriander sown and in airing cupboard.

Have done some cauliflower and winter lettuce which is in garden greenhouse.

If the cauli doesnt work, I will never try again. Have had about five attempts in past with no success. but to be fair I have always done them in summer and they get to the seedling stage and then die on me. Maybe too much heat.?
