In the unlikely event you don't hear another peep from me after June 4th, assume I am £450 better offIf you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

We were told at the time that flight was delayed becuase they lost an aircraft in the system, however now they claim "An unexpected flight safety shortcoming."
I don't see anything relating to this in the FAQ's!Probably not. But as you've not told us why your flight was delayed, and none of us is psychic (AFAIK), how can we say if they're right or not?

They "lost an aircraft in the system"? Where were you flying - the Bermuda Triangle?
If they are claiming a technical fault that prevented the plane (your plane? a plane?) from flying, there are links on that in the FAQs, as well as a "What to do next" link.0 -

Hi
We had a similar problem some years ago, with American Airlines.
I contacted them by phone, explained the situation and they said if I wrote in they would probably give me a credit note to use on a future booking.
Worth a try??? Write formally, Jet2 seem to not take emails serioulsly (Spelling error = too much beer).
(In the end we actually claimed on insurance, but not your option.)0 -
Hi
You werent by any chance on flight LS169 on 17th June 2012 to Ibiza were you?Hi everyone
I sent my letter to Jet2 using the template on here for a flight last June, due to leave Manchester at 4pm, then we had to go from East Midlands at 11.30pm - they have replied back refusing to deal with my issue, because I no longer have the original email or booking confirmation. All the information they have requested - date of travel, booking ref etc I have been able to provide, along with a print out from the Jet2 website showing my past and upcoming flights, but they say due to new procedures they can't process my claim because I havent provided the requested information! Has anyone come across this? Can they do this? Thanks for any advice0 -
So I have received several "exhibits" from Jet2's solicitors, including:
1. what I presume is a fleet spreadsheet of fleet duties on the day in question, although its taken a reasonably educated person several hours to even start to make sense of it, as no key or legend was provided.
2. A statement from the engineer who supposedly dealt with the tech or not, stating it was very rare, unforeseeable and unexpected circumstance. Well aren't they all? Otherwise they wouldn't happen. Case law states that frequency of occurance does not make it inherent in the normal operation - frequency applies both ways - rare and often
3.. A statement about the unavailabilty of replacement aircraft.
They seem to be missing the whole point of the EC reg in my view.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

So what they're saying is:
1) they had no spare aircraft to cover the (inevitable) breakdown scenarios;
2) the technical defect was unexpected - you'd have to hope for that, really, wouldn't you?
3) they had no aircraft.
Are you sure this is a defence and not an admission of their liability?;)
