I'm going to speculate, or maybe an educated guess, that this flight was originally scheduled to be on an Airbus A330 wide body aircraft that has been cancelled for some reason. Pilot shortage is a strong possibility if the original pilot called in sick as these aircraft are leased from Air Tanker who I believe also supply the flight crew.

This would result in the need for two aircraft to replace it and the change to the flight number.

You should have been given vouchers, so keep any receipts for anything you had to buy and claim back later.

Just to add, make a note and take a time stamped photo of the cabin doors opening at your destination, that’s the time compensation may be due is calculated to.

On a separate note, I’ve just done my upcoming holiday check in, let’s hope we don’t have problems this year!

    After a bit more digging...

LS831 is normally operated by the larger A330 aircraft, however, the aircraft that was scheduled to operate this flight, G-VYGL, has not moved since it landed from Faro yesterday afternoon.

Todays LS831 is showing as delayed till 11.24 and flying on a smaller B737.

So it's probably down to pilot shortage or a broken aircraft.

    and a bit more...

Jet2 have sent two aircraft to PMI from MAN.

LS831 B737 G-DRTE due to land around 11.30 local time.
LS81SJ B757 G-LSAG due to land around 12.30 local time.

These replace the scheduled A330 aircraft, G-VYGL, which seems to be still on the tarmac at MAN.

Isn’t it a shame that Tyzap has had to find out what has happened, why couldn’t Jet2 just tell it’s passengers what the issues are? It’s all secrets and lies with them afraid ......

Thanks so much Tyzap, certainly more informed than we were at the time!

I'm going to enjoy my holiday for now. We arrived 2hr 25m late from scheduled arrival to doors opening. I took a video on landing. But, as we were bumped on to this later flight, the next available, which we were not even told about until boarding our delayed 0630, if I have read the MSE advice correctly that would allow us 2 x €200 for a "cancelled flight" of over 1500km over over 2 hours late. We missed lunch with our friends because of it.

We werent given vouchers, I asked ground staff and cabin crew and they refused. I kept a receipt for breakfast.

Had 2 Amex Gold lounge passes in desperate need of using which would have been an ideal opportunity if we'd have been told what was going on from the beginning.

Incidentally we checked in online, hand luggage only, so bypassed check in desk where apparently customers were informed. (not us - we were told nothing by staff, pa announcement, email, SMS, call or pigeon).

    Cheers again,

    Hi again,

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but you don't qualify for compensation until you are delayed 3 hours or more.

It seems that J2 had known about the problem from the day before, hence they were able to re-organise your flight to avoid compensation payments.

    Enjoy your holiday.

    Thanks Tyzap

Weren't were technically bumped off LS831 to LS81SJ/LS8310 flight, therefore:

    1,500km – 3,500km (all flights), eg, Manchester – Malaga Up to 3 hours €200 (£170)?

The first we learned of it was when trying to board the delayed LS831.

    Cheers again!

    Hi,

No, it will still count as a delay unfortunately.

G-VYGL next flew to Fuerteventura on 29/5/19 at 10.44, almost 48 hours later, so it very much looks like it was a technical fault.
