Why did it land at Dresden? Because it possibly either had a tech (non ec) and/or low on fuel (non EC as it is Jet2's choice to possibly minimally fuel) so couldn't stack for the brief time the airport runway was closed. Note the replacment Czech aircraft was only 2 hours late arriving at Strasbourg.
This would suggest that the majority of the delay was Jet2 tech.
Also Dresden is <100 miles from Prague.

The claim was also for my 2 stepchildren. 1 is under 18 and 1 over. The under 18 does not have an account in his own name. How will payment be made?

  • Many thanks for the replies / info / advice.
In particular the Aviation Herald info (thx Tyzap) appears to show that a runway closure did occur on 7 May 2015 at Prague.
However as JPears pointed out the flight that aborted take-off due to engine failure and caused the runway closure then later resumed to Strasbourg arriving only (!!) 2 hours late, ergo runway closure must have been relatively brief…
Despite this the Jet2.com aircraft that was due to become flight LS888 was diverted to Dresden (insufficient fuel to wait in stack ? or in-flight tech fault ?) and according to Jet2.com being at Dresden then prolonged the resolution of a fault with the aircraft as no Jet2.com engineering support.
So somewhat disingenuous of Jet2.com to attribute the 5 hrs 25 mins delay we experienced to the runway closure… but crucially if it came before a judge presumably Jet2.com would be able to provide evidence that a runway closure had occurred so the $64k question is on the balance of probability would the judge decide that the EC runway closure is Jet2.com’s ‘get out of jail for free’ card / aircraft tech fault is irrelevant ? I have this suspicion that the law is an !!!!!!…
A common theme in the replies is this is not a clean simple just a tech fault delay so although usually a DIY advocate in this case NWNF (probably Bott & Co) is the next step.
Many thanks once again, will advise outcome in future post

I think you've made a good decision there, Bott & Co will defenatly get the compensation, it is a shame not to go down the DIY route, but leaving this particular claim to a pro is the sensible solution.

Jet2 are the worst Company to claim against, of that I have no doubt. They lie at the drop of a hat, spin tales of woe, and threaten all sorts of legal counter claims against the passenger.

You will get your compensation, but you're right, for this one, let Bott earn their 27%.

  • Probably the wise thing to do. You would spend many hours researching to make your case and then you have to present it in a way that will convince a judge - all for 500 euros. You have to ask, is it worth it.
If you let someone else take the work load, you get less, but no hassle.
Botts may not take it on, but then you'll know you have made the right decision.

Didn't say anything that can't be substantiated, in fact I go away in a few weeks, going all the way to East Mids to avoid flying with them, you never know Dr Watson might have a new patient in his surgery, tried checking in and you can't check in till a week before, that's pants. So looks like I'll have to find some internet and a printer abroad just to check in on the return flight! What a farce
