After my last fob off from Jet2 ( over two years after flight..) today I have a cheque from them for £570 for my self and my wife. It has just come out of the blue my last communication was with CAA about two months ago and they have not come back to me. Been fighting them for 2 years and always been rejected out of hand with the usual excuses. Wonder how many more people will get cheques ? Hope it's everyone.

    Really well done!

Didn't Jet2 try the 'it's been more than two years since your flight and it's too late' argument with you?
  • At least one Claims Company is in deep trouble for issuing court proceedings illegally. This has led to claims being struck out. So I wholly endorse the above advice. Either deal with the claim yourself or if you don't feel up to it go to a no-win no fee solicitor. DO NOT go to a claims company.

What's the difference between a claims company and a NWNF?

Claims companies do not necessarily have a legal background/law firm unlike a NWNF which will be a company of solicitors, such as Bott &Co.

  • Hi
I've been trying to claim from Jet2 for a flight delay from March 2010. I had the usual "extraordinary circumstances" to begin with which then turned into the 2 year claim limit & an order that our son had to make his own claim as he was on a different booking reference. I've played along with them emailing every month or so to point out that I felt they were wrong etc etc. Today I came home to a letter and a cheque for £359.14 being payment of the equivalent of €500 for my husband and myself!
I am totally gobsmacked! This must mean that they are starting to pay out for claims more than 2 years old.
The letter said they were sorry that our flight was delyayed and apologised for inconvenience caused. The said that unfortunately they were unable to deal with our son's claim as he was on a different booking reference but if he wrote in separately that would sort out payment!
Hopefully this is the start of them settling with everyone up to the 6 year limit!

I think they may be dropping the 2 year T+C's defence.

I have heard hints that this may be the case and it's beginning to look like it's true.

We know that the CAA do not agree with them on this point and have been waving the Enterprise Act at them.

The media has been quite vocal about the continuing multiple delays in paying overdue passenger compensation caused by their 'never say die' attitude and elongated use of the court system.

I also know that Bott & Co have been very hard at working behind the scene fighting this point, so it now looks like all the pressure is beginning to have an effect.

I'm also told that J2 are starting to build in a little slack to their busy summer schedules to allow for more flexibility. They also have contingency plans to try to head off 261 claims before they arise, like having standby aircraft and crew available on the Med.

There have been a few instances recently where they have prevented major delays by reacting quickly and having a contingency in place.

Of course they could have done all this years ago but hey ho, better late than never!

Was this not the purpose of the Euro legislation in the first place? So now passengers are much less likely to suffer horrid uncomfortable delays.

    Take a bow, people.
