ABARKIE said:I recently had a flight cancelled from Malta to Paris. It was cancelled at 330am Friday morning and I was due to fly at 0950am on Saturday (previously booked for 1105am, but moved)I was flying to Paris Orly and connecting at Orly to fly to Birmingham, with a 5hr transit time. The airline offered an alternative flight a week later to Paris Orly - basically the same one. This alternative wasn't acceptable and as a result I opted to fly to Rome and connect at Rome and fly to Manchester, to get back to the UK.The airline has confirmed €400 for the cancellation, but is declining to pay for the flights from Malta, saying I didn't travel to Paris. When I booked my flight at 8am Friday morning, the only flight to Paris Orly was €350, and in the absence of knowing my rights etc and position relating to reimbursement of flight costs I paid to the UK.Do I have a claim for these costs (flights to the UK) in the circumstances or not?1

As far as Ryanair is concerned your contract was to get from Malta to Paris so would have been responsible to get you to Paris not the UK.
Have you tried your travel insurance?1 -

Have you tried your travel insurance?Yes, the flight from Orly to Birmingham was with Vueling and totally separate and not connected. It was Transavia, not Ryanair.Flight cost between Orly and Birmingham was only €30, so I can cope with losing that, but think I should receive some contribution to the cost of the flights, even the cost of the flight off Malta. It was when England played in Malta, so it was very busy to get off Malta on Saturday morning.0 -

Perhaps you could have negotiated with them at the time to fund an alternative that suited you, but they weren't obliged to agree to that then and you're obviously in an even weaker position after the event, so it would appear that your best bet will be to take the refund and the compensation, and to accept that making split bookings does entail such risks....0 -
Ryanair don't fly to Orly so I think this is in the wrong thread.
We're these tickets on a single PNR to be checked right through? If no the airline had no obligation to fly you to the UK and the representative is correct.
If yes you will need to go back to the airline reminding that this was an official connection.💙💛 💔0 -

There is no liability for Transavia to get OP to the UK so they have correctly denied this re-routing.
Many insurance policies may cover this situation though (I have missed departure cover), so this may be something to look at. I'm not sure of the situation on policy wording though as OP skipped Paris.💙💛 💔0 -
Last Wednesday, while in Paris, we received a text from Ryanair to say our flight of the following morning (Beuvais to Edinburgh) had been cancelled due to an air traffic controller strike. When we attempted to get more information, we were only redirected to a form for a refund or asked to rearrange flights for another day. Unless we flew to another UK destination, the earliest return with Ryanair was Sunday, a four day extension to our stay. Due to the uncertainty over whether we would, even then, be able to get back and due to the lack of clarity regarding compensation from Ryanair, we decided to grab a flight home with another provider that evening. Our additional expense was ~£500 in flights. We also lost one night hotel stay, plus local transport (plus stress).
My question is, what is the best route to take with regard compensation. Should we simply seek a refund for the Ryanair flight. Could any of the additional costs be covered?0 -
DO NOT GET A REFUND. If you do this Ryanair will no longer be liable. Apply to Ryanair to get your reroute costs back. They will say no. Once they do this go to ADR and fill in the forms. Eventually they will say yes. It will be a long wait. It took me 9 months in total.Screen shot all of the responses from Ryanair. Screen shot the cancellation notice as you will soon find any trace of that flight will disappear from the Ryanair website. Keep all of you receipts.0
