Hi. I would like to ask if people have had any luck with getting their money back from Ryanair. We got stranded in Funchal Airport last week. Ryanair told us the next available flight would be in 5 days to London ratherr then Manchester. They only offered accomodation for one night and told us we would have to find our own accommodation for the following nights. We felt they didnt give us a choice so we booked tickets with a different company and we came back home the following day via one of the hubs in Europe. The cancellation was due to bad weather so Im not due any compensation but the lack of care and option for retouring with different airlines we chose to abandon the journey. Ryanair refused to refund us money for the cancelled flight saying we were rebooked. They also rejected our claim for reimbursement of travel expenses and own travel arrangements. Ive already complained to ADR. Has anyone had a similar situation and been successful in receiving the money back?

Still no sign of my money from Ryanair. I have had an update on adr to say that the deadline for Ryanair has passed and they have contacted them to chase this up.

What is the point of a deadline if they can ignore it? I thought that once adr had ruled in my favour the airline was legally obliged to pay up. There should be a fine imposed if they ignore the ruling. For goodness sake - this is money owed to me from last September.

    Hi C'est_moi
Ive just read your first post and your situation is very simmilar to mine. Basically Ryanair left js stranded with no accommodation. We paid almost a grand for new flights and the Eurostar to get us back to the U.K.
Did you get a refund for your unused tickets? Shall I ask my bank for a chargeback or wait till ADR makes a decision? Your help would be appreciated

Do not get a refund. I kept all of my receipts and went through adr once Ryanair declared they would not refund me. Eventually adr agreed to all of my costs, apart for the taxis we had to take from the airport to the hotel (about £25 in total).

It will all depend on WHY the flight was cancelled. Ours was cancelled because our incoming plane was so very delayed that our airport shut down. If it was the weather or strikes then it will be declared out of Ryanair's control.

I guess you had to face to same horrible dillemma as we were. Stranded abroad with zero advice or support from the airline you had paid to fly you home.

    Thanks for your advice.
I'm not goibg to ask for a refund in the mean time. Yes it was due to bad weather the plane had returned to Lisbon and got cancelled. We  decided to book alternative flight later that day when Ryanair had offered a flight to Stnasted rather than Manchester and no accommodation. Im still trying to claim via ADR even though the weather was bad there was a total lack of care. I will see. Worst case scenario Ill ask for Secrion 75 when my claim gets rejected

You don't want a refund, you want to claim the costs of the re-routing.

If you ask for a refund, your other expenses will not be claimable. Once you've made the choice, the choice cannot be changed unless Ryanair consent to this.Mhariolah said:

You will in this case get no compensation, however your out of pocket costs (for accommodation) will be claimable, as will the journey back as long as it was considered reasonable (the most basic Eurostar ticket generally should be as long as it was the cheapest way back).

Once again, DO NOT request a refund or you'll presumably be significantly out of pocket.

Edit: I'd read that as you will ask for a refund. The rest of the advice still stands.

I am STILL waiting for Ryanair to give me back my money, despite adr ruling in my favour . two deadlines have now passed. ADR have not replied to my messages. Does anyone have any advice of where I go from here. Has anyone else had a long wait after adr ruled in their favour? I am sick and tired of the whole thing now as £1200 is a lot of money to be kept waiting for.

Update! I was so frustrated by the lack of response from Ryanair and ADR that I did a search online and discovered CDRL. I raised a ticket with them on Saturday. Today I had an email from them telling me they were going to chase it up with Ryanair. I had my payment in the bank today.

This may be a simple coincidence, but in any case I am very, very happy to finally have my money back after all these months of Ryanair turning down my initial claim and then dragging their feet after adr ruled in my favour.

My next step in to put in my claim for compensation for the cancellation of my flight. I was not going to bother, but I am so angry at the way Ryanair has behaved I am going to push for my EU compensation now.

I recently had a flight cancelled from Malta to Paris.

It was cancelled at 330am Friday morning and I was due to fly at 0950am on Saturday (previously booked for 1105am, but moved)

I was flying to Paris Orly and connecting at Orly to fly to Birmingham, with a 5hr transit time.

The airline offered an alternative flight a week later to Paris Orly - basically the same one.

This alternative wasn't acceptable and as a result I opted to fly to Rome and connect at Rome and fly to Manchester, to get back to the UK.

The airline has confirmed €400 for the cancellation, but is declining to pay for the flights from Malta, saying I didn't travel to Paris.

When I booked my flight at 8am Friday morning, the only flight to Paris Orly was €350, and in the absence of knowing my rights etc and position relating to reimbursement of flight costs I paid to the UK.

Do I have a claim for these costs (flights to the UK) in the circumstances or not?
