Just a wee update on my case.
After a bit of correspondence back and forth with the solicitors for Ryanair UK Stansted, I submitted my receipts and surprise, surprise they were rejected by their "clients".  It has all gone quiet from them and I feel I've been led up the garden path a bit by them tbh.
Anyway, in the meantime, my local court have been very helpful and have accepted my request to re-serve the papers to Ryanair DAC in Dublin from 28th April.  The response date is now 9th June.
The "technical data" already provided as a defence has very helpfully included the number of passengers that left on the flight, 10!   I think this catagorically proves that Rynair failed to provide myself and over 100 other passengers with transport to the alternative airport.

    Ok, latest update.
Papers were reserved to Dublin on 28th April with a return date of 9th June.   This duly passed and I waited until 14th June to apply for default decree.  This was issued on 18th June.
On 24th June I received notification that a Notice of Dispute had been lodged and the default decree set aside.
Bit miffed with this as it looks that the dispute was only lodged after Ryanair would have received the decree!  Even taking into account postal delays.
I have email the court asking for an explanation but have not received a reply.  Also, I would have expected a hard copy of the notice of dispute to see their "arguments".
Interestingly, the notice to set aside the default decree was sent to the same firm of solicitors that claimed not to represent Ryanair in the first place!
  • Thanks for the update. I wish we had done it ourselves. We went down the Bott & Co route after RyanAir refused to pay our compensation 2 years ago this month, claiming extraordinary circumstances for a short shower. We are still waiting for court papers to be issued! Best of luck and please keep us updated.

I dont believe I'm out of the woods yet!  The small claims process has been pretty good so far but I'm under no illusion that I'm anyway near victory yet.  Still feel I will need my day in court but under present conditions god knows when that would ever be!
Still feel I have a good case and can have my story corroborated by many fellow passengers and Ryanairs own passenger data.

thanks for the "update" this morning, despite Ryanair saying they have "refunded March & April"  I am still waiting for my refund from a cancelled return flight to Manchester on 21st March with Ryanair - on line application completed, acknowledge and I'm still waiting, when I double check "my application" on line it still says "being processed" and I have tried numerous times their "live chat"  without success
I had to pay Jet2 £600 to return from Gran Canaria, into Stansted Airport & I have submitted a claim with my travel insurance for  that flight as soon as I returned, but I am now in limbo because my travel insurance wont pay out until I receive a refund from Ryanair.
No idea what to do next as the circle continues to spin round & round & round
Do you think it is worth trying my bank for assistance ?  I paid with my debit card
  • I have just been informed by Ryanair that there is a significant time change to my flight. 1 of the options is to have a full refund, which I have chosen. As I have a package holiday, will the rest of my holiday payment be refunded also??
  • I don't know if this has been posted earlier in this thread - but will attach details of Brexit and using EU small claims procedure in Ireland and also the details of the court in Ireland that deals with these claims.  We are attempting to claim a refund for £1500 of flights booked in July through the small claims process.  We could not travel as my husband has leukemia and was instructed to shield by the government.  Ryanair refused any refund or even a voucher.

Are there reasons why you are dealing with this directly through the Irish Courts? (ie as an Irish citizen or a UK resident in Ireland). I only ask because the European Small Claims Procedure EC Regulation No 861/2007 is still in operation and accessible to citizens in the UK up to the 31 December 2020 (source UK Government website) and my understanding is that any claim lodged with a UK Court before this date will be actioned after this date. This avoids the need to go to an Irish court to sue an Irish company (Ryanair) and have the issue dealt with in fron of a UK small claims court and then have any judgement in your favour actioned in Ireland through the Dublin Sheriff's Office. I used this route in 2015 to obtain €915 from Ryanair for a cancelled flight. I am currently owed approx £300 for canceled flights this year and will use this route if I really have to.

If the flights operated then there is no right to refund. (you should have been able to change the flights based on the fare rules - possibly change fee + fare difference) Have you spoken to your travel insurance company? - they would be the route in these circumstances
