Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Ryanair ONLY
Comments

Thank you for your help, I just wanted to update to say that today I received a payment from Ryanair for £590 (the expenses we incurred) so it seems that Ryanair do pay, they are just very very slow.0

For information only -
A flight I had 09.11.18, between BHX and MAD was delayed for a total of 7.5hrs, due to technical issues.
Several text messages and emails from Ryanair, throughout the day, apologising for delay and how to get Euro5 voucher for drinks while waiting (can't use on flight but can use in some limited shops in airport)
That same evening, they even sent me a 'delay confirmation' email.
Filled out their online EU261/2004 form 10.11.18, with some expense claims
After a couple of email exchanges, asking for bank details and acceptance of final offer, I have today (15.11.18) had confirmation that my 250Euro (in GBP) plus expenses (ex alcohol purchases) will be paid to me within 10 working days
Perhaps it was because my claim was straightforward but I can't fail to be impressed with the speed of their responses.
My only criticism would be that (but I understand why) all the comms from Ryan air talked about option to cancell and get flight costs refunded or to approach your own insurance for hotel and other transport costs.
Whilst the comms did mention EU261/2004, it wasn't clear that you could claim compensation as well as other costs.
I was surprised that quite a few travellers on my flight did not know this.
I told them all you can do it for free and its easy online but I bet a few got taken in by the guy waiting at MAD airport, handing out business cards promising they could get us flight delay compensation for "free"0 -
Well done, but your case is probably an exception. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I was refused the compensation but offered to pay my expenses, so I have emailed back to say that I am happy to accept the expenses but do not agree with no compensation, and have asked again for it. I am waiting for the reply. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

As I have not had a reply to my email after Ryanair knocked back my original request for compensation sent on the 17/10/2018
I am in the process of emailing a Letter before action to Ryanair, following Vaubans guide.
can someone please confirm when requesting the total compensation do I include the cost of the cancelled flights, besides the standard EU261 compensation & Hotel cancellation
Thanks0 -

Hi,
Things have change a bit since Vauban wrote his guide.
Before you go down the legal route have you looked at AviationADR who are an alternative dispute resolution company? they can be found here...
https://www.aviationadr.org.uk
Try them first as the legal route would be via the ESCP system, see DrWatsons great guide for that.
Claim for all your losses and EU261 compensation when you do claim, they can only say no.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Hi. Just to reach out to people and say don't ever go to Tripadvisor (air travel forums) as it is full of nasty people who shut down your posts.0

I will try Aviation ADR next assuming I don't hear back from Ryanair in my latest email.0 -
I have read Vaughan's guide and it has been helpful.
I had a delay back in February! I have gone through ADR and had a determination in my favour. I have approved the draft determination.
Now what will happen? RyanAir hasn't responded to anything up until now. Will they pay out at all? How do they pay out - do they send a bank transfer? Cheque?Mortgage started at £318,000 in June 2016. Original MF - 2041
2nd Property Mortgage at £275,000. Mortgage free: 2049
Total OPs: £295290 -
It would seem Ryanair tend to ignore the ADR. I would suggest constant hassling both Ryanair and ADR over the next 3 weeks. If no payment then time for the ESCP and complaint to both ADR and CAA.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
