meereck - In my opinion, you are due compensation as your flight was cancelled with less than 14 days notice and your re-routing was more than 2 hours before your original flight. €250 per person.

I got in touch with Ryanair's CSs and I've been told to fill in the EU261 form. Thing is it won't accept the flight number. Apparently there are two different EU261 forms. One for those with receipts wishing to claim for a reimbursement (not me), and the other one for those without any receipts. The former does accept my flight number and the latter doesn't. The guy in the live chat wouldn't transfer me to the dedicated EU261 team (which allegedly exists) saying they are unavailable. I wonder if all those obstacles aren't somehow deliberate?

I hope you can help. Not sure how much compensation we are due...

    15/09/17 FR8884 EDI - STN
cancelled less than 24 hour notice. No other flights available to book on any date, so we took the refund from Ryanair. Also, we weren't confident that our return flight
18/09/17 FR8883 STN-EDI would operate, so took a refund for that too (it hadn't been cancelled at this stage, but was subsequently cancelled along with all EDI-STN-EDI flights for the foreseeable future).

We rebooked flights with BA at increased cost EDI-LHR for same dates.

When I filed my claim, Ryanair was still trying to wriggle out of everything on the media etc, but I claimed for both flights regardless (I didn't know that I could also claim the increased cost of the BA flights too). I have now been paid €250pp compensation - is this the correct amount?

    Many thanks!

it should be Euro250 oper person per flight, so assuming 2 of you, Euro1000 in total.

Thank you, so just to confirm, even though I opted for a refund of the return flight before Ryanair cancelled it, I can still claim?
  • Am I right that the doc is also entitled to claim for the difference between the cost of the BA flights and the Ryan Air flights as well as the compensation.

I believe you are justified in this claim. Even though it wasn't cancelled at the time you sought a refund, it was effectively a useless flight as your outward was cancelled. The return cancellation was almost inevitable?
I believe this is covered somewhere in the regualtions but will check later.

  • I finally finished the00 form and took it to court, they sent me a letter asking me to give the amount in GBP rather than €250. What should I do? Do I just use the current conversion rate?

    Cheers for any help!

Use the best favourable rate in your favour. If that was at the time of the delay, use that rate, if its todays date use that, if it was the date you submitted the claim, then that one.
