  • Just wanted to thank the money saving expert team. I learned re flight delay compensation via one of their weekly emails. Decided to give it a try in respect of a BA flight from London to the USA I took 2 years ago when I was delayed by 6 hours. Followed the advice on the web and claimed via BA's webpage. Received an email reply fairly soon saying that they would look into it. A few months later I received another email from BA saying I am entitled to EUR 600 compensation per person, and as it was 4 of us, that's EUR 2,400 coming into my bank account! MANY THANKS MARTIN's MONEY TIPS. Keep up the good work!
  • Leyton - I too was on the same flight and just located your MSE post. I received a very similar response from BA last week in terms of citing the 'Radome' issue.

I will be interested to read how your compensation claim progresses. I will obviously post my progress (or lack of).
  • Hi, has anyone successfully received compensation despite paying for the original flights with BA or Avios Loyalty points?

We flew as a party of 5 (over 2 bookings) from LHR - Prague on 06/12/2013.

Our flight was cancelled whilst we were in the airport due to "staffing issues" and we were put on 3 separate flights later that day with different airlines.

We were originally due to fly direct with BA, landing at 10:25am local time, but landed at:

2 people landed at 17:45 local time
1 person landed at 18:25 local time
2 people landed at 19:50 local time

Lots of issues in between, but this shows how delayed we were.

Sent a letter with back-up documents to BA (signed for) on 13/01/14 but have received no response, which going by previous posts isn't unusual. I have since copied my letter into their online form and had a case ID issued.

I will wait a little longer, but wondered if people had successfully claimed after using their points to book the flights in the first place.

    Thanks

    Paying by points won't matter.

I have recently come back from Paris with my partner and daughter where our outbound flights on the 15th Feb 2014 from Aberdeen connecting for CDG in Heathrow were messed up through no fault of our own. Our flight from Aberdeen was delayed for about an hour (due to the bad weather in England) but we were refused at the gate to board the plane as we were going to miss our connecting flight in Heathrow and they had been told not to let connecting passengers in but I knew for a fact that the connecting flight was delayed also in Heathrow for 2.5 hrs and didn't actually leave until 3.5hrs later..FACT, meaning we would have got to Heathrow 3.5hrs before the flight actually left. We were ordered to rebook at check-in and put on flight the next morning at 0810 which I was informed by email 2hrs later was cancelled and had rescheduled us again for 1500hrs from Aberdeen. They did put us up in a hotel after we asked as we live 1hr away (a taxi was offered 1st). we went to airport 1st thing in morning to see if there was any earlier flight and managed to get the 1050 out of Aberdeen (why wasn't this rescheduled anyway as there were also plenty of seats on an earlier connecting flight) Were told that the 2 morning flights from Aberdeen were cancelled as there were no planes in Aberdeen. So we lost a full day in Paris, giving us only 2. We used our air miles plus tax money. What kind of position do you think we are in for a successful claim given that in the end we actually had 2 rounds of messed up flights! I sent a claim using their webform yesterday with more detailed information about the whole experience we had with BA.

As the basic cause was weather related you will possibly not have a claim
That the flight from Heathrow was showing delayed is immaterial as it might have got away earlier than expected. That it didn't gets into crystal ball territory

I suspect you were held at Aberdeen as with the state of things at Heathrow accommodation would have been at a premium and I'm sure you would have been unimpressed at having to spend the night at the airport if the Paris flight got cancelled
  • Hi
Just wondered whether anyone's had a refusal similar to this:
'Your claim for compensation has been refused because BA0054 on 29 April 2008 was cancelled due to circumstances outside British Airways' control resulting in insufficient cabin crew to operate the service which prevented the aircraft operating as scheduled. Under EU legislation, British Airways is not liable for a compensation payment in this situation.'

It doesn't cite what the circumstances were... do you think it's worth replying to them asking what they were or just go straight to CAA? Incidentally I also asked for compensation for the fine I had to pay as this cancelled flight meant I overstayed my South African visa (and got arrested!) - but they ignored that part of the letter!
    Advice greatly appreciated!

You would think they could dream up a better excuse than this! Forget the CAA (waste of time) just go straight for the jugular.... but quickly as you are almost out of time.
