I see, I can claim for denied boarding but not for denied exiting
even though both cause a delay lol
  • you cannot claim for denied boarding because you were not denied boarding but claim for the delay of over 3 hours

    Hi Guys,

Would compensation be claimable in the below circumstances:

My mum was flying MANCHESTER-HEATHROW-SHANNON on 20th Dec. The whole journey was booked with BA.

There was a “technical fault” with the plane from Manchester, so they missed the connecting flight to Shannon. No flights were available until the next day, due to people being diverted from Gatwick.

So, they ended up being put on a flight to Cork the next day and arriving over 24hours late and missed the first day of the wedding they were attending.

They had to pay themselves for train tickets and taxis to get from Cork to their destination.

Additionally, the food/drink vouchers provided weren’t accepted by any of the restaurants in Heathrow as they were mis-dated.

So was your mum stranded at Heathrow? Did you find and pay for hotel overnight?

    Claim should be valid for:
    Compensation of 250euros per person.
Additional expenses for any food and non alcoholic drinks, as long as receipts are available.

Possible travel costs from Cork. Where was their original destination for the wedding?

    Hi gilybob,

Yes you are, regardless of the reason for the delay. While you remain in their care they should look after all your basic needs. So, food, drinks, hotel accommodation (if an overnight stay is required) and transport to from the hotel.

They should arrange all of that for you but if they didn't you can claim it all back with receipts.

    Good luck.

  • You contact the airline in this case BA
  • Hello,

I have submitted a claim for a flight that I had with BA back in April 2014 so I don't remember much of the details.
So I was scheduled to fly on BA193 flight to from Heathrow to Dallas and then take a connecting flight to San Antonio on the 20th of April 2014 but the LHR-Dallas flight was rescheduled to a later time while we were at the boarding gate as the plane was late from whenever it was coming from. Then we were told the flight will be leaving over 3 hours later and subsequently I will have a different connecting flight from Dallas to San Antonio.
I raised the claim with BA but they have rejected my claim as they want the boarding passes and I don't have any record of these.

Is there any point in me replying back without this info?

    Thanks

    Hi Dhali2018,

Yes, don't be put off at their first attempt to dissuade you from claiming. A boarding card would help but it's not essential. Anything els you still have that places you either on the flight, at the airport, or in the USA during that period would also help, things like receipts etc

It's the delay time at arrival of your final destination that counts, which must be over 3 hrs to have a valid claim, which it sounds like you were.

    Good luck.
