    I think two things:

    1. It is legitimate (in fact proper, I understand) to use the rate of exchange at the time of the delay
    2. If your delay was in 2007, the airline don't have to pay you anything: and I'm surprised you have not been told to take a hike. If they did, you'd be out of time to force their hand.

    All of which is to say I would not make a fuss about euros or anything else - just give them your bank details before they realise their mistake!

    Conclusion must be right but the question of the appropriate exchange rate is still a matter for debate: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=64808019&postcount=4571

    What do y'all think to this;

    "I will request our finance team process the compensation in the sum of £#### based on the rate of exchange on date of your delayed flight."

    ...my delayed flight was in 2007 when the exchange rate was about 1.45 Euros to the pound, today it's about 1.20 Euros to the pound. In real terms, it means they are trying to get away with paying me about £800 less. I've asked to be paid in Euros, but what is the rule here??

    AIUI, the 'compo' is valued in Euros - if you are being paid in Euros, then why mention the exchange rate?
    If you were being paid in Sterling, then the 'lower' the rate is, the more £'s you get for your €'s
  • i am trying to claim for our flight delay of 5.1/2 hour to cuba, thomas cook still keep saying it was a technical fault and this cannot warrant compensation and they say they took all reasonable measure to avoid delay they say that they analysis historical maintenance data .we had to wait for a new plane to come from gatwick while they tried to repair our ,where do i go from now i am sure i have a claim.

    Court, either by yourself or with a NWNF - all details in the FAQs on the first page

    If nothing came up when you searched the forum for that flight number I would assume no-one has discussed it on here. If you want your compensation you best bet is to read the FAQs or speak to a no win no fee firm.

    To cut a long story short, I have a claim ongoing since April 2013 with TC. Having followed the instructions on this site, i.e. various letters etc. plus a letter from the AESA confirming that TC were liable to pay compensation for my delay, I decided to instruct a NWNF firm. I have today received an email from them saying that as TC are still denying liability they are not yet in a position to issue court proceedings but will monitor the case again in 28 days.

    I am disappointed to say the least and feel that this could go on indefinitely.

    Less than a year so probably not as long as some!

    The outcome of the Huzar and Dawson appeals will, we all hope, clarify matters (in the passengers' favour!).
