  • Hi

My husband and I were delayed 5 1/2 hours on flight MON313 on 19th June 2008 from Cardiff to Sanford, Florida. I send my initial letter to Monarch on Friday 24th January, had an email response the following Monday asking for each of us to complete a compensation claim form, sent this back (recorded) on Wednesday 29th January and received another email from them on Friday 31st January confirming the claim is successful and we will each be receiving a cheque for £485 in the post within 21 days.

I guess we are the lucky ones in getting our claim resolved so quickly. I just hope the cheques arrive!

Well done. Did they disclose what the cause of the delay was?

Thanks andythomas, really useful knowing the background to this and how you approached it. I had wondered whether they would settle all claims on a flight once that had paid out - but I know now that this isn't going to happen and need to start my homework! Great to know there has been a success on this flight ... With hopefully more to follow !

No I dont think they will automatically settle with anyone... you have to fight them all the way. They are obviously under instructions to minimise the cost to the company with all these claims, so they'll try to make it as difficult as possible for the claimants. I wouldnt mess about, do an NBA now and MCOL in a few weeks!

Wow! I just wondered what the cause of the delay was to elicit such a quick favourable response. This is amazing::T:T
  • No, Monarch didn't confirm what the cause of the delay was. Although I know our plane was due to come to Cardiff from Manchester & the problem was due to something wrong at Manchester. In the end, we were given a smaller plane which meant a stop to refuel in Gander which added another 1 1/2 hours onto the journey.
  • After reading about the new eu regulations I have asked monarch to reopen my claim
Has anyone had any success ?
My flight was delayed 9hrs 22mins from Newcastle to Sanford Orlando on 30th August 2008.

    There are no new regulations.

Did you follow the advice of Centipede100 in June last year? It's still valid but you need to start taking action as your 6 years is up in just over 6 months.

    Hi everyone

Starting the claim process for our flight from Sanford to Gatwick on 16th June 2011. I wondered if anyone has had an luck in regards to this flight. We were delayed due to a fault on the plane and to cut a long story short events after this caused a security threat so back off the plane we got while the FBI searched it! You actually couldn't make it up!

We have submitted our letter and got a reply saying we sent it to the wrong monarch address (why they couldn't just forward it on/ send it via internal post I don't know). Will let you know how we get on but in the meantime, if anyone has dealt with Monarch in regards to this flight, any advise or info would be greatly received.

    All the best

How long was your arrival delayed? Were you already subject to a long delay before the security issue arose? It's very likely that Monarch will major on the security incident as their defence. I assume that was outside their control.

Hi David, thank you for your reply, its very kind of you to take the time

We were delayed for 4 hours, i would say that the fault delayed us by a good 2 hours and then in short a lovely American lady decided that she didn't want to fly on a plane with a fault so wanted to get off but was happy to leave her children alone on the flight without her!! This then caused a security threat which lead to the plane being searched before we were able to get on our way. So the security threat was in a way caused by the fault as without it the rest wouldn't have happened. No idea where we stand with this rather strange situation but thought it was worth a shot.

Once again thank you for your response David

    All the best
