OS Daily Thread, Friday 27/04/2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 27 April 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning :hello:

It's not like me to be one of the Old Style Insomnia Society but I've been awake since 3 and am now WIDE awake with little hope of going back to sleep  I was sleeping a bit fitfully due to who knows what... minor indigestion (due to last night's incredibly healthy meal of a large bar of choc, a bottle of wine, then a prawn chow mein from the Chinese takeaway at 11pm :o) or bad feng shui (don't have a huge belief in it but there was a large pile of assorted papers blocking the hallway between my bedroom and the front door, from when I was looking for the guarantee for my fridge-freezer, and it was making me feel uncomfortable  I've just been and put it all away in the hope that it might put me in the mood to go back to sleep!)

If I don't get any more kip I might go into the office early (8ish) and attempt to have a super efficient day to compensate for whatever time I might have to take off next week, my busiest week of the month, to wait in at home for a fridge engineer

Won't get much Old Style done today as I am at work and then out for the evening from 6pm, at the final of the opera-singing competition I heard the semi final of on Tuesday. There are six finalists from the eleven semifinalists - I thought there should have been five, but I'm glad to say that four of those who got through were ones I agreed with. The other two I really didn't think were that good - one I have heard loads of times and never liked her voice much, and the other was just boring  For me, it's currently a two-horse race for first place - but these things can change. I go every year and it is a really major event - mainly to spot the stars of the future, but also because the judging panel (and the audience!) always includes some of my all time heroes of the opera world :j

Off to put the WM on and make myself a cup of tea.

Rzl xx

Good morning Bargain, AMIE and all to follow,

It's a bit like pulling teeth at the mo, I have been thrown off once and it has taken ages to log on.

The usual boring day today, salad for my lunch and pasta and hm sauce for tea (no garlic bread:eek: ) I don't eat puddings, I am not a lover of much after a meal but the kidsl can have some chocolate ice cream.

Mrs-mix, I hope you ds had a relatively good night and I think you are probably right to seek a second opinion.

I hope everyone else is well and (((((hugs))))) to all in need of one.

    Smoky. xxxx

Morning Bargain Rzl, Amie, Smoky and all reading.

How strange! I'm another who woke up at 3! Unusual for me. Did something happen? All seems quiet out there.

Well, BM is on, WM should be on but it broke, grrrrr. I reported the repair yesterday so hopefully.... I need that thing! Typically, I had a towel wash in when it packed up. I'm just finishing the shopping list and will be heading of as soon they open.

Pen-Pen, if you find yourself short of a second generation chuck name..... Can you call a hen Racy?:D

I was watching the coots just before I went to work yesterday and witnessed what looked very like the following interchange between Mum and one of the bigger chicks. Mum was on the edge of the nest and the chick was sound asleep in it.

    Mum - Get up!
    chick - mmmmnph
Mum - get out of that bed!
    Mum - Now!
    Chick - inanminuteMum....
    Mum - I won't tell you again
Chick - awwright! awwright! I'm up.... Mmmmmmmmnph, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

a few moments silence follows, then Mum moves closer to the nest

Mum - Will (peck) you (peck) get (peck) your (peck) lazy (peck) backside (peck) out (peck) of that (peck) bed! (peck) (peck) (peck)....

Do you think they might be teenagers now? ;)

The chicks have now decided they can feed themselves, Mum and Dad aren't so sure, and spend a lot of time racing around from chick to chick, hauling food out of thei chick's mouths, examining it then stuffing it back in. :rotfl:

I've not quite finished catching up on yesterday's thread, so bye for now. icon7.gif

And yes, I'm having trouble with the site as well
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Morning. I have not logged on since last Friday. that was a fishing day and it was great.
Todat it's work and then the w/end off. We have to get shopping I know that much. The cupboards are bare.
The kids are eating everything at the moment though. If it's there they will eat it.
On Tuesday I saw bogof for coco pops in Morrisons. Nice treat for breakfast I thought. Would you believe they managed between the 4 of them to eat a whole 600g box and 6 pints of milk that night???? That's why I don't buy coco pops.
    Well there you go.
Off to work now. Have a nice one.

Good morning BARGAIN and AMIE - yes, I have had trouble with the site today! I hope whatever gremlin it is goes away soon! When I looked just now it said 'current active user 1' and that was me! Can't believe that I was the only one in the entire world using MSE ten minutes ago!:confused:

Poor BARGAIN - welcome to Insominiacs R Us! I, unusually, slept for a whole five hour stint in one go! Bliss! Hope you found your guarantee! I, too, have a feng shui-blocking mountain of paperwork and I've already done loads this week!

Just read the rest of last night's posts - DS and his GF came round so I didn't get time to catch up with it last night.:T :T

SAMSAM - will post Hot Buttered Plums recipe later when I've a bit more time (DH needs his wake-up cuppa in a mo!) but I don't think you'll be adding it to your 'healthy-eating' menu! They are yummy! Glad you enjoyed your first day with us - you definitely sound really positive and upbeat now!:A :A
GRANNYBROON - I LOVE motorbikes! We did Europe on one years ago and it is still one of the best and most exciting holidays we have ever had! Go on - be a biker's chick!
CRAZY - Wheelbarrow push sounds fun. A nun! Don't you go picking up any bad habits, now!:j :j
KYLE - Hope LO OK? I've only put about a third of my pics on disk - I have learned a lesson from you and will spend Sunday a.m. doing the rest! I am sure SAMSAM will have some excellent suggestions for food re diabetes and she's happy to have her brains picked!:T :T
    DONNY-GAL - have a great weekend!:A :A
DLB - hope your mum is OK:A :A
CATOWEN - Happy Birthday to Little Miss Catowen - I wish I was nine today!:bdaycake: :bdaycake:
TIRED MUM - you made the right decision re your DD gong to Bournemouth!:T :T

Anyway, I'm rushing already and it's only ten past six! I hate this 'hurried woman syndrome'! I have three parcels to post re eBay, some ironing which I know won't get done today, paperwork, fruit and veg shopping from the farm shop, a couple of letters to write and two birthday cards to post, as well as changing sheets, prepping dinner, a spit-and-polish right through the house - I'd make a fortune if I could sell dust! And then there's the washing and some of DH's invoices to sort out and cheques to write and check the state of the accounts - I wish I could go back to bed, now!
Weather forecast is great for the next couple of days so that will help.

Willl call in later - have a great morning everyone!

  • Morning all :D

Another one here who can't sleep  Well it seems like my OS life isn't anywhere near being back on track as I've still not got around to making that blooming chilli! I'm doing it tonight without fail.

Apart from that still very little happening with me although the plan for the weekend is massive spring clean and finally clearing out the spare bedroom as it cuurently resembles a junk shop  Why is it I always think a spare bedroom would be a good idea but in reality it always turns into the official dumping ground

Anyway, off to go and get ready for w**k, as always take or leave the :grouphug: as needed
