Did you know the sex of your baby?

I just have to add my ha'penny-worth to the debate! Scans can be inaccurate so bear that in mind. I had amniocentesis because of a blood test and my age (39) and they asked if I wanted to know the gender. I can't bear the idea that other people know something about me that I don't know, so I said yes. However my partner didn't want to know, so when the test results arrived by post I opened the envelope and told him that we had managed to put the right number of chromosomes together but didn't mention the gender, just hid the envelope.
He didn't believe I'd be able to keep it a secret but I am the best keeper of secrets ever! I never let it slip and was careful to always talk about 'the baby' or 'he or she', even though he tried to catch me out, I just saw that as a challenge! We didn't choose names as my partner didn't want to waste his time arguing over names for both a boy and a girl, knowing that I already knew that one of them wasn't necessary; anyway it seemed a bit odd to me to choose a name for someone we hadn't even met yet! As far as clothes etc go, we were on a money-saving mission anyway so bought lots of things at car boots, nearly-new sales, ebay etc and were given a lot by friends who had had children at a younger age (very handy arrangement!) - I simply bought a whole selection of things in all colours, blue, pink, green, red, multi-colours, stripes, white, orange - you can always do this then sell the extra ones on or just use them all (as we did - after all I dress myself in blues, greens etc not pink:rolleyes: ) - the baby doesn't mind what colour it's dressed in! The baby was born at home and my partner was called in to find he had a brand new baby daughter and has been besotted ever since. I was just very pleased to finally meet her!
The most annoying thing was friends who couldn't bear the fact that I knew and wasn't telling them. They would go to incredible lengths to try to trick the information out of me, and of course would try to get it out of my partner but that was a waste of time. They seemed to take it as some sort of personal insult that I wouldn't tell them, although they calmed down a bit when they realised my partner didn't know either. :rotfl:0
