I knew first time round because I'd had amniocentesis because of abnormal blood test result. I didn't ask to know, they just said normal girl over the phone. It was lovely to know, because after three miscarriages I could then think of this one as something real. also, just about everyone who read my notes told me it was a girl and then said"Oops have I put my foot in it? did you know"

Second time I didn't know and that was lovely too. Lovely surge of joy when they said "It's a girl" which wasn't there first time. (and talking to friends, it would be a similar surge had it been a boy - you love what you get!)

After recently going through baby catalogues with friends couldn't agree more with the colour thing, so much less 'neutral' things.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

When I was expecting twins 8 years ago the hospital whare I live would not reveal the sex of the babies.

It was nice to have the surprise of finding out it was two boys but it would have been good to be able to buy boy clothes in the sales beforehand to save a bit of dosh.

We went for lemon and lime in our nursery to cover all eventualities. I did buy a few pink and peach babygros that were on offer and sill made use of them!!

Coming up with two boys names on the day was a bit tricky too as I had already decided on one boy's name I really liked but couldn't make my mind up on the other. I didn't want to leave the hospital calling one by his name and the other twin 2!!
Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j

We both wanted to find out at the 20 wk scan but they couldn't tell us as baby had the cord between legs and legs crossed. We then decided to have a 4D scan at 26 wks (which was amazing I would highly recommend it!) and found out then that we were having a boy. I did have a small doubt about finding out just because of what everyboby else was saying (should be a surprise at the birth - believe me I had enough other surprises giving birth) but I was so pleased I found out. The scan was so exciting seeing the babys face watching it yawn and open its eyes. Finding out the sex really helped me bond with the baby so much better - I felt like I had 'met' him at 26wks old.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Just go with your gut instinct and dont listen to anyone else it is a really personal decision.

What other reason could there be for knowing?
This is a moneysaving forum and I want my baby to have the best. The baby is not the accessory, but it needs quite a few. And they come segregated into colours. Even things like some baby monitors come in blue and pink! Am I to rush out shopping on the way home from hospital, because there aren't many people who are gonna come visiting.

The OH asked for opinions and this was mine. I don't expect all people to agree and what other people choose to do is their business. If you want to be really moneysaving forget all the coordinated stuff, decorating a nursery etc and you'll save a fortune! I too want the best for my baby but it just doesn't happen to include these sorts of things.

We found out with both of ours, girl first then a boy :D
Helps to plan if you know what flavour it is and I found it helped me to bond with them (unplanned babies!) also bagged lots of bargains in the sales!!

BTW - we didn't tell anyone else what we were having and had it as a secret just me and OH knew! Did baby's room in lemon yellow and still ehad the excitement of telling everyone when they arrived! ;)
Happiness is not getting what you want - it's wanting what you have :D

First one i didn't want to know. Thought i was having a boy but had a beautiful little girl.
Second one i wanted to know so that i could wash all the pink baby clothes if i definately knew it was a girl. I did have another beautiful girl.
I think though it is wonderful not to know. Such a lovely surprise.

I didn't know with the first one. He was a boy and we were delighted. With the second we were asked if we wanted to know and as we didn't mind which sex we said yes. They said it was another boy and we were thrilled again. Some people asked if we were disappointed not to have a girl - ( so I coluld go shopping with her!!!!!) We started calling unborn baby by the name we had chosen and by the time he was born I felt we alreday knew him. We were just thrilled to bits to have two healthy sons, If I need a girl to shop with I'll borrow a niece!

    Good luck.

my friends were expecting twins (the already have 3 girls) so when they were told 1 of the new twins was to be a boy they were over the moon. Even at the last scan- a week before the birth the staff were talking about 'him'.
    she has 2 girls!
this didn't just effect them financially- they'd spent a fortune on blue stuff- but they were emotionally affected as well as they had prepared themselves.

Don't ask coz they can be wrong!
