Did you know the sex of your baby?

I'm a Mum to 2 girls & 2 boys, I am from a large family of 6 girls.
1st baby girl
2nd baby boy
3rd baby girl
4th baby boy
My advice would be not to find out, from my personal experience with my 2nd child he was breech until 36weeks, I found out then at the scan, he was a boy, straight away I regretted asking & it spoilt the suprise when he was born.0 -
Well, we found out with both of our daughters.
With the first i "knew" she was a girl but when we had it confirmed and could tell the families it was great! Seemed to make her more real and helped me to bond her before she was born and we had to share her!
Second time i was convinced she was a boy, DH assumed she was a girl so we had an argument in the scan room and the sonographer told me to shut up as i was wrong!!
A few points to mention, not all places will tell you, sometimes they can't see properly and they do get it wrong!
IMO i would see what you feel like on the day.
Congratualtions and hope everything goes well :j0 -
interesting thread, as my scan is on monday ( a week late arrghhh)
i dont think we will find out, my friend said dont find out it gives you more motivation to push and that has pretty much stuck in my head ever since LOL!
i am not fussed whether im having a boy or girl, i just want a healthy baby (and an easy labour hahahahahahah)

It was obvious my first born was a boy, as he was lying with his legs wide open showing everything off on the scan.
Would have liked to know with my second, but he was all curled up on the scan and we couldn't see. I'd convinced myself he was a girl for some unknown reason, so it was quite a surprise when he was born and they said he was a boy.
Asked at the 20 week scan with this baby and they said probably a girl, but she wasn't 100% sure. I had to have an emergency scan this week at 34 weeks 5 days, and it's definitely a girl as we got a good look at her lady bits.
Personally I liked knowing. With the first and third, I've thought about them by their name over the last few months and I feel like I'm bonding better than with my second born who was just "bump" until he was born. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I didn't know with any of mine, all were girls. The hosiptals wouldn't tell us with dd1 and dd3 and dd2 was in the wrong position anyway
Next time I'm planning to have a 4d scan if they can't / won't tell me the sex at the hospital. It would be good to know as it impacts what we do with bedrooms for the other three!0 -
I didnt know with mine, the local hospital policy at the time was not to tell because people were having terminations if it wasn't what they wanted.
But.. a story that always makes me laugh even now is that my friends sister in law was one of those keeping up with the jones's types.. everything had to be perfect and she would tell you the price of everything she bought etc etc etc, bit like the bugaboo girl in the Harry Enfield sketch. She already had two girls and her hubby was desperate for a boy.. so on the third one she went for the scan, was told it was a boy and was over the moon. They did the nursery in blue.. bought loads of blue clothes etc.. even down to boy pampers.. and then she gave birth to....... a girl :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:☆ §ügÅr cØÅTëÐ pØï§Øn ☆

We found out for my first born, not for the second. Personally I preferred not knowing. The birth of my son was the only time I've ever cried through happiness. Almost a surreal experience!0

When we have our first child I want to find out the sex but hubby doesn't so i think it will be just me that knows but i won't tell anyone else that I know. I will be able to buy little bits of clothing/bedding/etc...for the correct then (and in the sale/charity shops etc...) so everything wont be cream or white (boring!)
I think it is good to find out and good not to find out as well for the surprise. if you do find out, you can start bonding with the baby before it's bornMake £10 a day challenge March 2013 £101.24 / £240 :j

My 20 wk scan isn't for another month but I too am finding it hard to decide.
I had thought I wanted to know, so badly that if they hadn't been able to tell me at the scan I'd have gone private!
But now I'm starting to change my mind... the idea of having that to focus on during labour is appealing... and the sealed envelope is tempting but I don't think I'd have the willpower for that... hmmm0 -
No I didn't know with either. I loved that people ran up to me when they saw me with a pram saying "ooh what did you have".0
