  • Whatever happened to tolerance and empathy.......[/QUOTE]

I wish some of the people who are claiming their money back had tolerance and empathy, one of my friends works in a Bank and she says that the amount of abuse they are receiving over the counter is astounding. It's not fair that frontline staff are in the firing line for decisions made by management! More than once she's been in tears and believe you me she earns £12500 a year for the priviledge!!! And as for the profits she's just been told she's not getting any but her area boss got a reported £40K!!! Thats what sticks in my throat about these bank charges, some people honestly have terrible problems that mean they are stuck in a vicious circle, but there are people out there who totally spend more than they earn and then they think the rest of us should suffer because of it (I'm thinking of future bank account fees here)! But anyone thinking of going in to their bank soon please just remember that person on the counter is sat there trying to do the best they can! BE NICE:A

incenced at trademarks assumption that everyone in debt has lived beyond their means,

in 2001 I returned to college to study, the idea being that I could get off benefits and return some of what I had taken from the country.

in 2003 I left uni with degree and 2 diplomas.

in those 2 years i run up the lower than average student debt of £10,000

Now, I am worse off than I was before because childcare is now unavailable for me to go to work, and I am considered overqualified (and get passed by) for basic jobs at minimum wage that suit my circumstances of having no childcare institutions in the area therefore limiting the hours I am available for work.

now I am left to sit with a degree level education, hunting down cleaning jobs, and paying off my student debt from an income that barely covers the cost of living.
But your not saying it's the banks fault, for that I applaud you:T

    With some people it is.

    SOMEpeople is right.

You cannot assume everyone in debt has got so because they eat out all the time, have a plasma screen telly and a car less than a year old. That is stereotypical clap trap.

It is easy to "blanket" criticise everyone who is struggling; a better person understands it is not all cut and dried.

It is totally wrong to assume that people who are in a pickle are not decent, upstanding people.

    This is all so sad....

  • Dickybodoo......... what about when your payments coming into your account are late? expect £50 in on wednesday, therefore thursdays DD will be covered. Oh dear its not there, find money quickly to cover DD as a charge is a quarter of your weeks money that you have to scrape by on. Have you ever been in the situation where you are desperately waiting for a payment of £17 to enter your bank so that you can feed your child and not your bank managers big fat wallet?

im sorry but anyone with some common sense would have enough money set aside, at least say £50 set aside for emergencies so they wouldnt have to worry about feeding their child, your telling me that there is no way at all you could have had £50 set aside,
i can understand a series of unfortunate circumstances meaning you run out of emergency money but not having even enough for food set aside just seems silly
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D

Yes, just recently I've had to rob Peter to pay Paul, living on one wage with two primary school age children, with no help from Child Tax Credits or Working Credits I have been there. What you can do tho is cancel that direct debit - its cheaper and all you have to do is fib, tell the company that the direct debit is for that the Bank cancelled it by mistake and they will send you another mandate out!! As we say up North - "Up there for thinking, down there for dancing" - sometimes you just have to try to be one step ahead. Don't let the Bank win!
