So those of us who adhere to our banks terms and conditions and build a good working relationship with our banks over a prolonged period will now have to carry those who dont.
And you all know the truth ...yes the banks make billions, but they have targets and they will keep them .... how ? by reducing or delaying interest, providing less attractive incentives ....... cutting staffing levels, or their availbility on the customer front line.
Those who spend and basically steal the banks money without permission ... and yes it is theft, will not get their money back ...and who will pay for it.
you guessed it ... as always ...those of us with the money, hard earned money i might add.
I agree that those who are few pounds overdrawn at the end of the month should not be rewarded with a £35 letter, and in most cases the bank ignore a few pounds so no problem, but thousands of pounds in charges are caused by those who ignore the banks, take from them and then disregard their advice.
martin you are no better than carol vorderman, i wonder how big your house and bank balance are, brilliant website but you've lost it this time.

Was thinking along those lines myself.0

You obviously have never had financial difficulties where 1 bank charge can add up & add up & then cost you £100+
As for getting the charge & "ignoring the banks advice" once you start on a spiral like that which personally meant taking cash advances on 1 credit card to pay the min charges on everything else only stopped once i started a DMP.
As for bank customers paying for it its b******, how do you think the banks get these massive payout profits in the first place? They massively over charge, i have even been charged for the cost of a letter being sent when it was added as an attachment on internet banking!
I am reclaiming my bank charges & i am proud & if you dont like it tough!!!!!!!!!Madison's mum

if the banks charged us the £4.50 it actually costs then fair enough but £35 is just taking the micking out of us0

I hate to be really controversial here but surely its a "no brainer" not to go into the red with your bank? I'm not meaning to put anyone down who is unfortunate enough to be stuck with bank charges and I'm certainly not saying the banks are right to charge such high fees, but surely if you know you've written a cheque or got a standing order etc and there isn't enough money in your account then you're going to go overdrawn!!
You wouldn't walk into a supermarket, fill your trolley with £90 worth of food go the checkout and tell them you only want to pay for £50 quid would you? It's the same principle. If we're not careful all the Banks will start getting wise to all this "illegal charge" rubbish and we'll ALL get stuck with having to pay a fee to have a Bank account! Then what will Martin have to say!?!:money: And one more final note - those solicitors letters - I've worked in a solicitors office and know exactly how much it costs them to dictate and have the letters typed etc. if anyones charges are illegal - IT'S THEIRS!:rotfl:

Here we go, everyone's debt has been caused buy the banks, sorry that is an urban myth.
Mine wasn't it was my fault.
Not to say some people's isn't. But not everyone's and that is what Martin keeps implying.0 -

Or a Judge (since most of the Judges these days are the shareholders in the Banks).
We can all have opinions, but i wish they would keep these ones to themselves.
I, like many other people on here, are hardworking. So explain to me, why we should let the bank have it in charges????????.:rotfl:"Penny Pinching Winch"

The banks cant get away with overcharging people for goig overdrawn, I am sure if you bought something and where overcharged you would be unhappy. It does not cost the banks £35 to tell you that your overdrawnIf I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0

exactly, if i got charged 4.50 a time then that would be fine, but my 39 quid is a joke, on average wage up here of 6 pound an hour thats nearly a days work for nothing.0

Gosh how wonderful to be that perfect! You must have been polishing your halo as you watched the programme.
How ignorant to assume that people who go overdrawn, sometimes seriously overdrawn, do so by spending money willy nilly on frippery. Did you ever consider people may have faced job loss? Unexpected illness? Or simply that things spiralled out of control.
Lots and lots of people (especially on this board) have lightbulb moments but are struggling with the banking system. If you know you are overdrawn and are trying to do something about it, you don't need a £35 letter from the bank telling you so!
I am glad I am not perfect. I wouldn't like to be that judgemental of people.:dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will. :dance:0
