Protection of freedoms act: Private parking tickets = still unenforceable

If anyone else starts a new post or thread saying 'I have got a private parking ticket and I know you used to be able to ignore these...but mine is different because it has a bit about the 'Protection of Freedoms Act' I WILL SCREAM!
NOTHING HAS CHANGED EXCEPT THE PPCS CAN NOW CHASE THE REGISTERED KEEPER FOR THEIR UNENFORCEABLE PIECE OF TRASH, RATHER THAN JUST CHASE THE DRIVER. YOU CAN STILL IGNORE A FAKE PCN. OR IF IN ENGLAND & WALES, YOU CAN USE POPLA (THERE'S A STICKY ABOUT THIS).
THE ACT DOES NOT APPLY IN SCOTLAND SO IT'S EVEN EASIER TO IGNORE A FAKE PCN FROM ANY PRIVATE COMPANY IF IN SCOTLAND.
Here's a post that I use every time but I am getting soooo bored of this question:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/57143257#Comment_57143257
There's a handy 'search this forum' button just above the threads index when looking at the forum as a whole. It's on the right:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
All you have to do is put a keyword in, please newbies. Try it. 'Protection' or 'new law October' would find loads of results.
PLEASE!!!!

Oh...but my ticket is different...and my OH says but that quoted post was from 3 months ago (in regards to a ticket we managed to get at Aldi for staying over the time limit and after seeing some report on the telly). I've told her to rip up the letters but she just refuses to believe that it's just an invoice that she can choose to only pay the owner the actual losses incurred which are zero.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

T'is annoying, especially when they say, I have read loads of other threads, but my situation is different and then go on to describe a situation we have seen on here many times before.0

and it of no help when journalists print this sort of information
"However, the Protection of Freedoms Act makes the vehicle's registered owner liable for fines from members of the British Parking Association if they decline to identify the driver." Anna Tims at your.problems@observer.co.uk

Woah! Folk come here because they're worried to death and in desperate need of advice and re-assurance with an issue that is unique to that individual. Regardless of the words of wisdom that can be found in other threads, people still need the calming influence of a personal reply which is hopefully tailored to their 'unique' circumstances.
How would we feel if we went to a solicitor, as an example, for advice on divorce or a will, to be told they'd heard it all before and to go away and read about it? I know I'd be angry!
How many of us talk through a problem with friends and relatives when deep down we already know the answers? I do - it's all part of being human.
Folk in trouble have a need for the personal touch. And if you don't then you're a very lucky person indeed.

I know I know. I have been fielding such queries for several years on here!
But for the love of God can't they just search the forum first at least? It's so much better when a person has bothered to read the forum a bit first.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If someone comes on here in a state of panick over a 'fine' and up to that point the only information they have been given is via the press ( parroting BPA press releases and liberal use of the word fine/penalty) then in my opinion its perfectly understandable. From the Plain Language Commission:
"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"0 -
Yes...and that's why I have been here for years. I do get it and I know a lot of people come here after Googling about private parking tickets.
But when someone actually reads a bit of rubbish on a fake PCN about the 'Protection of Freedoms Act', takes the time to Google search it and waste their time reading it, can they not at least just try searching for posts about that Act when they come here?
Just a search...PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

When I first posted here (not so long ago) I had read and read till I had information coming out of my backside, and knew exactly what to do in my circumstance. But, I still needed to be heard and know that there was another person listening and holding my hand whilst I went through the process. In fact, you were one of the people that gave me the confidence to act and I will always be grateful for that.'People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.'
