All the people on this forum who spend time trying to stop people paying these charges are fantastic. You know your stuff inside out and have case studies and anecdotes to hand.

However please understand that the rest of us don't. Some of us receive a first ticket and are new to MSE and the forums. Some have maybe never been in any forum, who knows. We don't know what you do and have to learn it, be reassured and yes have our hands held. Some of us get conflicting advice from sources we go to before or at the same time as here.

As an example. I got a ticket and was given some advice on what to do. I did check the advice and found other things including the post on the MSE main site but I never came to this forum until after I had acted. I posted my story trying to find out what do next but some of the posters were aggressive and bordering on abusive. They thought I had read all the advice and then done "the wrong thing".

Just one example of how things happen. There will be lots of other stories including the "I read all the posts about other people - but this is me, please help me" So please bear with us. I am now telling everyone I know and saying to them to come he first if they get a ticket.

I understand what you are saying and have posted a couple of posts above yours about it getting busier with this. But there is a degree of self help on this, it's no good posting on a thread if someone doesn't read any of it, yes they may be new to forums, but if very often they look at the post directly above theirs the advice is there.
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Sure - but that fits the "this is about me, I need help with my ticket". Until they have read loads of posts, which I don't believer first timers do - they believe there is something unique about their story which needs a personal and reassuring response. They are often upset and worried and the first responses they get shouldn't be aggressive or rude. It takes time for things to sink in.

Please don't make these posters feel stupid and humiliated.

I don't think a majority of posters on here do anything aggressive at all, as I said self help is also needed on here, these people go onto google mostly and put a search in , so helping themselves. So why is it so difficult to put a search on here as well ? Why do you think people copy and paste stock replies? It's because the answer is the same almost every time, their situation is the same as thousands of others. In fact the thread they have posted on is likely to have this stock answer already. If people don't do the most basic of self help, they won't get anything beyond the most basic of advice.

In order to post here, you have to agree that you have read and understood the posting conditions, FAQs/guidelines for new posters.

How on earth anyone can say they don't know the forum after reading that, I really do not know!

And there is generally no conflicting advice - About the only source of confliction is usually new posters talking out of their backsides when they should take a few moments to check their facts. Or stooges trying to mislead of course but they don't last long.

I don't find it unreasonable at all to think that a new poster of any level of experience should be expected to spend a few minutes making themselves familiar with a board.

Another thing to consider is that many "new" posts are worded in a way that suggests the poster concerned assumes they are not subject to the same legal climate as the rest of us, or are displaying a kind of arrogance that inevitably makes them some kind of special case - I don't feel that massaging that kind of ego is part and parcel of being helpful?

Also and I may be being cynical here but I am somewhat concerned about the veracity of many of these "new" posters, especially those who make bold statements about "knowing" that POFA came-in.

The reason is that a while back, I was on another board concerned with a contentious commercial interest and discussion on that board was eventually killed-off by an overload of posters repeating the same two or three basic questions or statements with no supporting fact or opinion - It was only later, after moving to a board with much stricter moderation that checking-back on the IPs revealed that a very great many of these posters were fraudulently coming off the IPs of the commercial interest involved or its connected/supporting interests - And its not like we have not seen a load of dirty tricks and stooges from the PPCs on here already.

My 'MSE' New Years Resoltion is not to get peeved about the repeated questions but to just post a link to this thread if the same old questions are asked by people who can't seem to find 'search this forum' at the top of the thread list. :)

    Good luck with that.

Mine will be to avoid being too sarcastic to people who post in txt spk, don't use capitals or punctuation, and can't tell the difference between "there" and "their".

Should last until about January 8th, I reckon.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

and 'should of' and 'could of'...

...and 'practice/practise' and licence/license' annoys me because it's sooooo flippin' easy to get right.

People don't get 'advice and advise' muddled so why pactice and practise, or licence and license?

The verb has the S. Bloddy simple.
