My question is this.
When people go to spiritualists etc, why are all the message that they receive from the 'other side' so mundane? Like 'Auntie Doris' false teeth are down the back of the sofa'. Why do we never hear what the other side is really like? That's what I'd really want to know, not the whereabouts of misplaced household items!
Nobody ever comes back to name their murderer either, when that information would often be really useful.0 -
It's all interesting stuff. I've heard of that happening when someone dies and visits someone at that precise moment. It's very strange.
I have some friends coming over from Australia in the new year and they will have to go in 'that' bedroom so I am just going to treat it as normal and hope they do not pick up on anything.
Robisere, very interesting stories.
When I started this thread, I felt like there was only me and my family going through this but now it seems like so many people have been having similar things going on, it makes me feel a bit better.0 -

Because they are cold reading. They go with information which is very nebulous and is likely to fit. It's worth checking out a few Derren Brown shows - he successfully fooled a whole room of people into believing he was a medium, giving them information about deceased loved ones that had a few in tears. He wasn't talking to spirits....he was cold reading the audience.

I've never believed they do, but a friend of mine was completely convinced and had a priest do an exorcism for the poltergeist she thought was hiding her stuff (she was losing her stuff, mostly) and it drove her mad that I didn't believe her, she tried everything to convince me. We had many a long debate on the issue and neither of us ever budged.
She died a few years ago. If there was any way she could have come back to:p prove me wrong and gloat there's no way she'd have missed the opportunity. Sadly, she's just gone.
But what if these 'beings' are not dead people?
In my religion (won't say which) there is belief in djinns. These are beings that can inhabit places that have been unoccupied for a while, graveyards, jungles etc.
I know I probably sound like a raving lunatic right now but thought my two-pence worth might offer another perspective."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -

Because the priority is to give 'you' proof. It maybe a question of something you are searching for, it maybe commenting on the fact that you were looking at wallpaper patterns, or a comment about your health - I remember a comment about my front teeth - 'No I said no problem' but next day while brushing a crown fell out. It's comments (depending how good the medium is at interpreting the images he/she is given) that apply to you and no one else in the room.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

He may be able to get away with that once, but giving too generalised 'readings' often, will mean he's not asked back - whilst better ones, who are able to tune in to give better information, will take his place. I suspect the audience was either being charitable, or didn't know what should happen.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

The thing is they rarely apply to just you even if they seem very specific.
My friend wanted to go to an open meeting at a local hotel after her brother died very suddenly. She received no messages but a message came through which was very, very, specific to me and related to my parents names, linked to my son, and gave a significant date, or so I thought, .......four other people also thought that.;)0 -

I agree, but I still can't explain what happened to me.
I know my mother would have come back, although my niece did visit a medium and was told by her that my mum had said that we needed to sort the radiator in our youngest son's room.....and it was true we did. And she was obsessed with kids not being cold in bed, so it was very typical of what she would have said.0 -

You're a Muslim, djinn aren't a secret.
I don't believe in Jinn, or fairies, or unicorns either, they require an even bigger disconnect from reality than ghosts surely?0 -

Really, watch Derren Brown's debunking programme. It completely shatters any idea that these con artists who exploit the bereaved for financial gain could possibly be genuine.0
