Just to pop in, when I moved into an old cottage it didn't really feel comfortable so bought a crucifix which I put on the wall and the atmosphere really improved. I was much happier there and have since moved twice, both times the crucifix has been put up, wouldn't know what to do without it now.0

When I moved to my current house last year, there was a 'feeling' in the lounge. My mum could feel it too. I had my furniture in similar positions to the previous owners. My mum read an article about not having furniture in the same place as previous owners so we set about a mammoth furniture move (it's a massive room). It did work.
I'm planing a major overhaul of the room later this year which will involve completely gutting it, which is what I have been doing with each room as I've gone round it. I'm going to strip it back to bare brick and start again with new plaster, fireplace, woodwork etc which I think will also help.
My previous house was about 130 years old and made all sorts of noises at night. However, I have 2 cats who I keep in at night and they would roam around, so I always put odd noises down to them. Whether it was or not I'll never know!0 -
Ohh lord. I'm moving into an old, huge house soon, the type you'd lose yourself in the place.
I was told "this place has an atmosphere". Yeah okie dokie then.
There is going to be no one in the lounge/bathrooms/dining room/reception/study/kitchen/utility/bedrooms watching me. It's all mine
The only noises maybe my snoring.0 -

The problem comes when the cats also hear the noises and refuse to go into a room, just stare saucer-eyed through the doorway.0 -

As it was a mid terrace, I would have convinced myself it was the neighbours! :T0 -
Since, it is 200 year old. So, it may be, that some other events happened there in the past. It also may be your disbelief, because doors might be collide due to strong wind blow.0
