Must say I have never read a bigger work of fiction since the bible. This thread is from someone with a great imagination - hoping to be the next James Herbert :)
The way the story has developed with a new twist in every post that the OP adds, and the way the believers of hocus pocus nonsense and the skeptics are arguing is fascinating. Great reading if I must say :T

As an atheist and non-believer in the paranormal, i would say that calling a vicar/holy person is the worst thing you can do.

The noises/occurances are due to something physical. Be they rodents, drafts, building subsidence, dodgy electrics etc.

If you call a priest to bless the house and the noises carry on because you've actually done NOTHING about them, then what? Are you going to think you have 'super-ghosts' haunting you?

I dunno, maybe a 'blessing' would be an adequate placebo.....

When i read the original post, I was hooked and have followed the thread with interest, But since the Aussies arrived i have become sceptical over wether the OP is telling the truth or making up a work of fiction, with other posters providing material for a novel.

I still want to believe the OP though. Have wondered why "the aussies" are not just reffered to as "our friends" unless I missed that bit

I agree that this thread sounds like a work of fiction - the little drips of sensational info with each of the OP's posts sound like something a thriller writer would put at the end of each chapter.

Still, I kept coming back for more. :D

Oh dear - when our family visit from Australia or New Zealand, we talk about the Aussies and the Kiwis who are staying with us!

No need for the Oh dear! was only wondering and I will still keep coming back for updates/next chapter;)

I have family in OZ, if they come back to stay they are not reffered to as aussies but its not really that important

I'm amazed that anybody thinks I am going to write a book ! I wouldn't know where to start but I will take it as a compliment ! However I can assure you there will be nothing coming from this, it is too personal and I have been so frightened at times that I just want to put it behind me.

We always call the Aussies the Aussies because they call us the Poms. Just a bit of banter.

The vicar came again and we all talked and he said some prayers and it seems more peaceful. Or maybe we just feel more peaceful, I don't know. I can't get my head around the medium but I do try to keep an open mind. I feel more at home here now and I can cope with bumps and creaks. Fortunately the big thuds seem to have stopped (and yes, we did get a plumber, I said that a while back and there were no problems with the pipes).

I just hope that things continue to stay fairly calm. I never gave this sort of thing a second thought until it happened to us. I used to think it was all easily explained by physical things but now I can't say that any more. So I continue to keep an open mind. It's been interesting reading what has happened to people. I have no reason to think they have made it up and it just adds to the huge lack of knowledge that I realise I have. The older I get, the more I realise I don't know. Thanks for the info on local history etc, we will definitely look into that. I think it will be interesting in its own right even if it doesn't give us any answers. I have to say the vicar said he knew nothing about any murder/suicide or the like. Can't wait for the spring and/or better weather when we can start renovating the outbuildings. Also hoping to get some chickens ! Thanks again to all for posting it has helped us to feel much better.

Thanks for the update and why you call them the aussies.

You say you are not writing a book and I believe you, but think you have enough material for one

I have read the whole thread with interest as a few unexplained things have happened to me but the one thing that I am most shocked by in the whole of the thread is how quick the spare bedroom got turned round and an ensuite fitted!! well done!! we stripped the paper off our bedroom three weeks ago and I can just see it staying that way for years like in the Royle Family!! Need visitors to spur us on. :rotfl:
    Slightly bitter

DianneB, ha ha that made me laugh about the ensuite because if it was left to me and my husband, it would take 6 months. No, we have a few people we can call on and they are quick workers. It is only a tiny space though so it wasn't a huge project.

Thanks photome, I'm glad you believe me. If I wanted to write a book I could have either done it myself or asked people to contribute. I think it would be unethical to take material that people have given genuinely - and I have to say, bravely, when they could be open to ridicule- and put it into a book. I would never do that.
