For the believers, there are several massive prizes waiting to be claimed as soon as someone can provide some solid evidence:

    None have been claimed yet...

See all that proves to me, is that solid proof has not been able to be got. It doesn't necessarily prove non-existence iyswim.

Many things in this life have been simply believed before solid proof was found.

I have no idea what is 'correct' so until it has been proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt, one way or another, then I shall keep an open mind.

P.s....Derren Brown is not proof. :p:D

What do you mean by "tolerate each other"? I don't see welshwoofs persecuting anyone. I suspect that your real objection is that you have no answer to the argument they are presenting.

Please don't get me wrong. I think there is some merit in what welshwoofs is saying but there are ways of saying things without making other people feel insulted!

You let me know as soon as there is solid proof and I'll happily accept the existence of the paranormal.

Until then I'll file it under 'imaginary' along with leprechauns, Narnia, the Loch Ness monster and everything else that there's zero evidence for.

    Will do. :D

Can you do the same for solid proof that the paranormal doesn't exist?

(I don't class people offering alternative theories as solid proof btw. :p)

I'm afraid its logically impossible to prove the non-existence of something that doesn't exist. The burden of proof is on the people claiming that it does.

Have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot

Why can't we just tolerate each other? Why take the 'my way or the highway, you lot are all stupid!' approach?

I do tolerate people who believe in such things; I'm simply putting forward a combination of facts (it has never been proven that ghosts or psychics exist) and opinion (which is that mediums are charlatans).

Now what I would call intolerence is people reporting my posts where I've stated that I believe mediums are charlatans....because that is true intolerence isn't it....seeking to censor other people's opinions for no other reason that the person(s) doing it doesn't like them. ;)

  • Oops, this is turning into quite a debate. My kids got me a poster which says,

    'Fear knocked at the door,
    I opened it and
    There was nobody there'

I think we will get used to the atmosphere in our house but I don't like it. I've never felt this anywhere else. We have never lived in the countryside but have stayed in old cottages etc and nothing. Also when we came to view the house we didn't feel anything, only that it was a bit cold in places.

I am not a fan of mediums, as I said early on I think they prey on the vulnerable and to do it knowingly is imo unforgiveable. I think Derek Acorah is brilliant at what he does but to me it is all fake. I daresay there are mediums who believe they are genuine, and at a stretch maybe there are genuine ones but it is not something I actually believe in.

I do however believe in the survival of the soul. That doesn't mean that people come back and slam doors. I don't see the point of that.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions, I do find it fascinating and I suppose it is one of the most important questions any of us can ask - what happens when we die. I would love to think my mum could contact me but I don't think she can. I think she's in a different dimension.

I don't think that's why you were reported, I think it was the 'biatch slapping' part that was the problem. :rotfl:

I've had three rather odd experiences in this house and several others elsewhere, also I'm sensitive enough to atmospheres in buildings to wonder if I should actually investigate this medium/sensitive stuff and get some guidelines or training for it. On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to take it any further, I can deal with limited quantities of creepy happenings but I don't really want to go looking. The more rational, scientifically trained side of me says it's nonsense, I was probably just stressed at the time. My OH says I'm acting peculiar again and to go and have a cup of tea. Still, they've all been oddly useful experiences so I'm not intending to try avoiding them.

My advice to the OP is to get a couple of cats though. They'll deal with any vermin and cause enough bumps in the night to distract from any in-house creaking. Especially if you have dogs too! As to the odd room, paint it yellow and wedge the door open when there's no-one sleeping in it.
