I'm something of a sceptic but I can't deny that my parent's house had some odd stuff going off in it when they first moved in. However, it has all calmed down since they had some fairly major building work done. It's possible that as you settle in and change stuff the things you're experiencing will decrease, or you'll learn to live with it :)

I'm taking this on board Callie. I am planning to put an ensuite in there and make a few changes, lots of light etc. I really want to enjoy this house, it is what we have been looking for and I'm going to try to ignore the noises etc. I may try earplugs.

Yes, of course other people may not feel anything in the room. I wouldn't say anything to anyone. It just continues to amaze me how much is out there that we don't understand. Thanks to everyone as always and hope you have a happy new year.

The main problem for me is that I don't think I could give anyone what is supposed to be our guest bedroom. I don't like to be in it so how could I put guests in there. Maybe it's all in my head, I start to think that sometimes but the rest of the family have experienced things too.

Putting guests in that guest bedroom is exactly what you need to do. If you avoid doing that then you continue to build the whole thing up in your head and it'll get bigger and bigger and gain more and more significance to until you manage to convince yourself that the room is a 'no go' area. Conversely if guests in there don't notice anything 'off' and have a good night's sleep then it'll help settle your own thoughts.
Welshwoofs, I was hoping that we could get more for our house if we advertise it as haunted lol.
Unlikely I'm afraid - as you can see from this thread, there are a lot of people who believe in ghosts and !!!!!ies and would avoid places they thought had them. Even normally rational people will often not want to 'take the risk'. The old place we owned mentioned it was haunted in the sales literature and it was widely mentioned locally and in writing - this one from 1986 mentions 'The Portcullis' being 400yrs old and having a ghost. Of course there was no ghostt; it was simply the fact that a building that old with mullion windows, oak panelling, oak boards, large original doors and all the other architectural oddities makes one hell of a racket. Bangings, creakings, scratchings, rattlings, cold rooms, draughty rooms....it had the whole lot.

You'll be fine in your house - don't give up on it and don't make that room into a no-go zone for anyone. Best to let other people make their own minds up.....because, believe me, if we'd listened to gossip when we were looking at The Portcullis we'd have run a mile. We didn't and we had a trouble-free time there :)
“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

  • hi omnasia - i apreciate your fear of a creepy house - we once - when poverty beat everything else - lived in a house where the previouse five inhabitants had been murdered - in the recent rather than far past - and it was one of the least creepy houses i have lived in !!!!
the things you need to bear in mind
    1. the dead cant kill the living.....otherwise there would be a very different court system
    2. if you think that creaky things are communicating wth you it may be - for instance - to warn you that your stairs need a bit of attention - not that ill omens are in the future for your family
    3. how cool would it be to have a bunch of people who knew what the afterlife was actually like trying to communicate with you ???

i do appreciate that these views may be a little unusual but consider welcoming the possibility of this type of communication
Personally I was surprised at how quickly this reversal of perspectives turned into dissapointment....and a realization of what a bright airy house we were living in - for minimal rent.....

i can see about 15 differnt faces in my curtains - ,..its the most easily recognised bunch of shapes from any given random selection

hence the reason you can see jesus in a bit of toast.......

we are hardwired to see / pick out things that might be faces - in random shapes
just incase they might be agressive and camoflaged...
... personally i can see the transcendance of man in the slilghly discoloured flesh on the top of my right foot !
but i cant pick out a correctlt spelled word in a lineup
    damn dyslexia !
