I deleted all the folder containg the photos at the time. I know sounds odd but if you are actually living in a 'weird' situation and keep looking at photos with strange orbs , things that looked like comets flying past groups of people, odd figure like shapes staring in through the windows it sort of sends you deranged dwelling on them.
At the time I wouldn't watch ghost films either. It's not nice when you are living with strange goings on.
When we moved into our present home (my grandparents old place) I was wary of taking photos. Thankfully we only got one with an odd shape on it which shows it wasn't the camera.0 -
Things that go bump in the night
We live in an very old house - built by Quakers circa 1650 from fossilised mudstone - very pretty, every stone has fossilled seashells in it so practically prehistoricMost of the walls are 3-4 feet thick and life exists within them - families of birds, shrews, mice, frogs and newts all happily live deep inside the crevices and cavities of the stones- if it wasn't for the odd sighting or a bit of chittering and rustling heard occasionally at quiet times - no-one would know that they are there
We believe that you should live and let live - so we all happily co-exist together
Our house still has the original boxed staircase and often we the stairs creak at night as if someone is walking on them. All the internal doors are latched and frequently the latches spontaneously lift and doors swing open of their own accord at all times of the day and night - as does the back door if it is not securely locked. All our downstairs ceilings are open beamed and we often hear what sounds like someone mooching around upstairs. Even when "home alone", you never feel lonely somehow . . . .
. . . scary? . . . . not at all imo
It's conceiveable that we are sharing our home with another presence but like the other creatures that co-exist with us, it is only dimly perceived and unobtrusive . . . . . and harmlessly going about its business. I'd no sooner call in a priest to get rid of it than call in the pest control people to exterminate the sparrows nesting inside the attic walls

So two challenges for you -
1st - scientifically and logically describe and prove - Love e.g. are you 'in-love' - prove it!
QUOTE]
Maybe not the best example.
Anyone who has ever seen a thread (or an entire internet forum ) dedicated to the premise that people have an affair - or want to have an affair - because they are 'in-love'...
would be very happy if there was a scientific, logical description or proof of love/in-live'.
As would those who have affairs.
Because it would make the whole issue so much more clear-cut.
As things stand, I believe that 'love' and 'in-love' probably exist. I also believe that many people use the two concepts/states of being as a get-out clause for their own lack of responsibility, or a multitude of other inabilities.
Same thing with the paranormal. I believe that it probably exists, but I also believe that many people use it as a get-out clause. For example, people may project their unhappiness in a relationship, and all the discomfort that brings, onto the place where they are living.
Just to clarify, the above isn't directed at the OP.0 -

That is a really interesting idea. I know that in many cases hauntings can be explained very rationally. I always felt uneasy in the kitchen of my 200 year old house for example- until we had new tiles laid on the floor in straight lines. The old tiles had been slightly wonky and must have upset the brain somehow.
DS used to see a lot of people in the house when he was little and for the most part they were just going about their everyday lives. I only remember one time when he was being naughty and a man gave him a look which stopped him from ever doing that particular thing again. Now that's my definition of a good ghost!"A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0 -
I wouldn't pin such hope on the vicar either - its your house not his, you have to come to an amicable relationship, not him. And if this spirit had a violent dislike of the church - or a different faith - then all it will do is annoy or offend them.
If it's a wee old lady who loved her house and who still pops in to keep an eye on it, then why should a clergyman waltz in and demand that she leave? Not nice! It might help you to talk to him but that's all0 -

Are you thinking of the exorcisms they show in the films?
The most a vicar would do on a first visit is say a few prayers asking for peace in the household.0 -

This has made me think. I would obviously never want to get rid of creatures co-existing happily with us, or remove any 'character' from the house but this 'feeling' that we are not alone....I'm not sure. If I could understand it a bit more maybe I would be happier to just live with it but I can't live with feeling scared at night, or scared to go upstairs or be on my own in the house, or not alone.
The vicar is coming later on today. Mardatha, I don't think it is a case of him 'exorcising' anything, just helping us to deal with it and our feelings I think. He seems like a nice chap and I will update later. Thanks again to everyone, you all have so many amazing experiences.0 -
Mat Hev, thank you I willl take your contribution in the spirit it was given. I honestly appreciate anyone's genuinely given help or thoughts.
The vicar came. I didn't want to say anything before, but I was starting to wonder if 'something' didn't want him to come. A bit irrational maybe.
Anyway, he seems such a nice man, very down to earth and had a real calming manner. He just chatted with us, asked where we had lived before, talked about country noises etc and how most things are just natural phenomena. He explained that the church does have a person, I think he said in each diocese, who deals with exorcisms. Actually he never said that word, I think he called it deliverance. He explained that it is very rarely needed and they have only done about 8 in the past 10 years.
He said some prayers, just asking God to bless us in our house and asking for peace and tranquility to be here for us. It was very peaceful and for want of a better word, nice. He didn't tell anyone to go anywhere but asked for no harm to befall us and it felt good.
He said he will come back next week. I don't know what to think any more. I feel totally drained. I've been scared, embarrassed, hopeful, panicky and many other emotions, such a roller coaster. I can hardly dare to believe it's over. I think a more likely scenario is that we have been given the strength to live with whatever has been happening to us.
I can't thank you all enough, there have been times when I thought I would not get through it without you and I wish I could press the thanks button a hundred times. Just a few kind words and thoughts can make such a difference.0 -
