I believe that the spirit world is interwoven with this one, and they are around us, but not all the time. Like invisible friends for grown-ups lol. I don't mind being laughed at because one friend of mine did once and had reason to eat her words. It's a very personal thing and you cant really believe until it happens to you. I'm a Spiritualist.

Yes, I understand - likewise the last part (CSS).

Honestly, you were probably just talking in your sleep.

Aren't there enough real things to worry about without getting worked up about things that aren't actually there? I'm pretty sure there are no recorded incidents of people coming to any harm from spirits or ghosties.

I have a 200 year old barn in north wales and I when I go there to stay on occasions I;m always hearing noises and foot steps and even sometimes strange voices about 3 o clock in the morning. i;m so use to it i don't let it bother me. Don't worry about it, nothing will happen to you. In your posts you said you heard 'sacks' being dropped on the floor, you sure it;s not santa.

Fatz says get out of the house before its too late!
  • There is a very strong chance that whatever is going on in your house is completely unaware of your existence. It may be a recording on the environment, the stone tape theory which was mentioned earlier, or it may be people who are simply continuing to live their lives as they always have done. If the latter is the case then they will see the property as it was to them and not the changes that have happened since they physically occupied it.

At night when you are physically more relaxed you are much more likely to notice these noises which can be subconsciously rationalised during the day.

I hope the vicar/minister will be able to calm things down for you soon.

  • Just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to reply. I know with Christmas it's a busy time so I appreciate everyone's input. It has helped me to feel better as I had no idea that so many people have experienced things like this. I hadn't given it much thought to be honest but I am taking on board all the comments and tryng to get my head round it.

Vicar is due to come round today so I will update later. Hope everyone has had a good christmas.
  • OP, I just wanted to say don't worry.
I've had varied odd experiences over the years.
8 years ago we moved into a very very old cottage near the beach on a welsh island miles from anywhere. DH doesn't believe in ghosts but on one of the earlier nights there something happened to change his mind.
We were in bed and it was pitch black. I heard the click of an old fashioned door latch in the corner of the room where there was no door, a noise I can only describe as a shushing noise came over to the bed ( I sunk down well under the covers) and it 'touched' my husband.
He swore, threw out his hands and sat up in bed.
That was the most direct contact we ever had but we took lots of photos of spirit orbs, saw strange shapes around the house and paddocks, had doors opening and closing, lights turning on and off etc etc. We constantly felt drained (not the usual tiredness you feel after moving but headaches and feeling drained of energy)
Found out the place had a reputation from a previous owner - who told us that no one slept in the bottom bedroom for very long.

However, the worst of the disruption was when we first moved in. Rather as if once they'd made their prescene known, met us they calmed down.

Life moved on. Occasionally they'd annoy us by opening doors or making strange noises in the night but it was if we had accepted one another.

I did a lot of research on the place and found out we were located on a ley line - or a ghost walk as they are alternatively called.

BTW I wouldn't recommend talking to them - as I heard it can encourage them. Only time I spoke directly to 'it' was when once I was on my own in the house and rushing in and out trying to look after the live stock.
I went into the bottom bedroom for something and as I was pulling something from under the bed heard something banging on the back window trying to get my attention.
I looked but there was nothing in sight. Too loud for a bird more like a human hand (and I lived up a mile long dirt track away from habitation with a dozen dogs who barked if anyone came near).
    I wasn't scared. I was FURIOUS.
I said, "You want to stop that banging and get some work done! I can find you some if you are bored!"

I never heard anything more that day and things stayed quiet-ish until we moved.

BTW I do agree that sometimes there are other reasons for things going bump in the night. Old houses are terrible for it and sometimes traffic can casue odd vibrations.

But please don't let it drive you away. It's probably not trying to scare you - think of it as an introduction. Bless the house if you feel better for having it done.
I've used burning sage to help clear odd atmospheres in the past.

Anyway I just wanted to say don't be scared. I know its difficult in the middle of the night when even small noises are amplified and you are desperate for a wee. But at the end of the day, as my mother used to say, its not the dead you should be scared of but the living

ophellia if your life experience is so limited, and your tolerance so low, then perhaps you would be better to take an approach where rather than belittling and judging people who are offering support to a fellow on an internet forum you just turn the other cheek and walk on by.

Not commenting is fine. Many of us choose to do that when we don't agree or have nothing to offer.

There is no shame in not offering a comment. Often we don't have a particularly relevant experience to share, so generally it's best not to comment rather than sneer at others who have experienced something 'other' than you.
