  • See my comments in blue. And I haven't scoffed. There is nothing wrong with having your house blessed. Just saying that on this discussion everyone is prepared to accept the existence of supernatural entities whereas on other discussions I have had, the mere act of telling someone that you believe God is real DOES lead to all sorts of scoffing and name-calling.

Seems as though some people are quite happy to believe in spirits, but not the Holy Spirit, Jesus or God.

You're comparing apples with oranges. And strawberries.

People who don't believe in supernatural beings at all won't believe in your ones any more than others.

People who do believe in supernatural beings do not have to believe in your particular ones, they could believe in completely different ones, or connected ones.

And some believe in both supernatural beings and your particular variety of supernatural beings.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Agreed. But people who believe in 'other' supernatural beings don't seem subjected to the same insults as those who believe in the Christian ones. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not saying anyone has been insulting on this thread, but it happens all the time on DT, in other discussions.

OP, I do feel for you.

We lived in a 150 year old house for a few years and it always felt very creepy. Lots of strange noises, especially at night, of course. There was a built in cupboard with a lock on it that had what looked like fingernail scratches on the inside of the door. I had more nightmares living in that house than I have ever had elsewhere and I never felt completely safe or happy when I was alone overnight.

However,....I am still here, nothing bad ever happened to me and it was a good place to live in most ways. I don't think I believe in supernatural things so maybe that helped a bit, but really we just got on with it, explained the noises away as best we could (even 'oh it's just next door' when we knew next door were on holiday - it didn't matter - just being able to say it was comforting!) and still enjoyed living there in lots of ways.

It was only when we moved out that our family and friends started telling us how horrible they found the house and how freaked out they were when they came to visit - obviously they didn't want to say anything while we were still living there! But I say again - we survived, nothing bad ever happened and in most ways we enjoyed living there.

I would say try to focus on the positives, the reasons you bought the house - those haven't changed. I know it is hard to say and I am a big wimp so I would be just as concerned in your position, don't get me wrong - but try to just say to yourself 'this is an old house, there is a logical explanation for that noise I can hear, even if I don't know what that explanation is right now, and I am glad we bought this house because the kitchen is a great size' (or whatever!)

Good luck and I hope you start to feel better about things...

Perhaps seven-day-weekend there's a similarity between those who believe in the Paranormal and those with strong religious beliefs, if you believe in a heaven or hell when you die, does that mean, that your Spirit lives on. And it is these Spirits that some people associate with the Paranormal.

Ghost is never, ever going to leave you alone, you'll never sleep well again and just think of what you're friends and family are going to think of you if you keep confiding in them - they'll have you locked up before you could say "Santa Claus"!!

You won't have to declare that you've seen ghosts on your sales brochure or to any potential purchasers because:-

    Ghost's Don't exist!!:T

People who believe in ghosts very rarely want to set up exclusionary ghost themed schools or discriminate based on ther belief in ghosts.

When I think discussions on this subject are taking an unpleasant path I (and other rational posters) step in. Search for my user name + ghost for examples.
  • Thanks Nutz666 for the links although I have to say I am deaf in one ear and the other is not great so couldn't hear a lot ! I really hope it is something like that.

The bad news is that I had a phone call from the vicar's wfie. He is not coming today as planned as he's at the hospital having tests for suspected appendicitis. Just our luck. Oh, that sounds awful, I mean I do feel sorry for him being ill of course.

Anyway the kids are due back some time today so I hope we can just have some normal family time and not dwell on it too much. I do appreciate each and every contribution. There's nothing worse than thinking you are the only one so thanks again everyone and hope you all have a lovely Christmas.
