The bad news is that I had a phone call from the vicar's wfie. He is not coming today as planned as he's at the hospital having tests for suspected appendicitis.
*hums the omen theme tune*
:rotfl:
Sorry.
We live in an old church owned property. As soon as we moved in we had an issue with one particular area of the house. Nothing particular ever happened (noise or bangs etc) but we experienced uncomfortable feelings passing this spot (on landing at top of stairs).
We keep a lamp on in this area all night, clearly a psychological prop but it's helped.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Some people seem to think that something is only real after science has shown it to be so.
Stuff happens all the time around us - thunder and lightning were happening before scientists understood how they happened.
People have experiences - to dismiss them because we haven't got proof is unscientific. By all means, test the experience - check for drafts, floorboards creaking, tie a weight to the door handle and see if the door still opens or set up a camera.
For a quick fix, ask a priest to bless the house - if that works, maybe there is something operating at another level or maybe the placebo effect has relaxed the house owners so that they aren't worried about the creaks and groans. If it means sleeping well and enjoying the new house, does it matter?0 -
Do some research on low frequency noise, this is known to cause strange feelings.0

Perhaps seven-day-weekend there's a similarity between those who believe in the Paranormal and those with strong religious beliefs, if you believe in a heaven or hell when you die, does that mean, that your Spirit lives on. And it is these Spirits that some people associate with the Paranormal.
I believe in Paranormal Activity and I believe strongly in God as I am a Christian - the two can go hand-in-hand.
Seven-day-weekend - this thread is not in DT and I would appalled if people scoffed at religion.
Omnasia - so sorry that the vicar is busy xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I find this thread very interesting. I'm hoping to relocate next year and when I view potential houses I would rule out any that I felt had a "creepy factor". I'm not "sensitive" or "psychic" at all but I do have a good imagination, especially at night! I viewed a large dormer bungalow and didn't like the doors in the eaves. I explained to the EA that, whilst I did like the house, it was probably too big for me and I was trying to imagine how I would feel if I were alone there at night. She did understand what I meant and said " A house should be like a warm hug around you". I love this description and in future when I view I'll look out not only for the lack of the "creepy factor", but also the presence of the "hug factor"!0

I have had to live with a "Ghost", "Presence" "Spirit" or whatever you want to call it. It started when we thought our 3 year old daughter had an imaginary friend, but it transpired we were having a visit from a "whatever" which began to manifiest itself as an irregular shaped shadow moving around the home, but mainly in the hallway. We had a spiritualist come to our home, and immediately he walked in, began speaking to someone by the name of George, whom we found "thank goodness" meant us no harm, but just adored our little girl.
Anyway, the Spiritualist asked us whether we wanted George to stop visiting, and of course we both said yes. He then said to George that if we ever wanted him to come and visit our daughter again, that we must light a candle and put it on the windowsill in a Daughter's room.
We asked the Spiritualist whether we needed to get the house blessed, and he said it was totally unnecessary, and that George would never come back unless we asked him.
So, 8 years on, that candle was never ever lit, and what we thought was our daughters imaginary friend completely disappeared from the moment the Spiritualist left our home. Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.0 -
How much did the 'spiritualist' charge you for that performance?0

The spiritualist I knew many years ago would have done it for nothing. I don't know whether all do.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I lived in a house with that feeling of an unpleasant 'presence' when I was a teenager. There were a couple of cold spots around a central chimney stack which we all felt it impossible to pass without the lights being on and one cupboard that by unspoken agreement was never used. There were also sounds of muffled conversations which each family member attributed to others, it only becoming clear years later that no-one was listening to the radio at 3am. I found it helpful to name and then address this presence and tell it firmly to f-off. Trying to ignore the feeling just made it impossible to sleep. I also found a night light helped. Over the years a number of visitors, neighbours, past occupants etc reported odd goings-on as well as family members. I have never had the same feeling anywhere else, except close to a windfarm, so I think there may be something in the infrasound idea.0

Most spiritualists would do that for nothing.
I take it by the tone of your post you are trying to tell jacqui59 that what she experienced was all in her head? Love your arrogance.
Happy moneysaving all.0
