Haven't mentioned anything to the kids, didn't want to bother them while they were away. They will not be sleeping in that bedroom but at the other end furthest from our room.
We did have an interesting conversation with a neighbour this afternoon. He is not close but we can see his house further down the hill. It wasn't anything he said really, just the way he said it. Asked if we were settling in and had we had any problems yet. Just seemed a bit funny as if he knew something but then again, maybe I'm being paranoid.
That made me laugh about the cat playing the piano....Isn't it strange how so many people have had weird experiences and yet we can't be sure what is going on. I hope to make progress tomorrow, maybe the vicar will actually have some local knowledge.
lama-pdx one of the women said 'the past is better left alone' I'm pretty sure those were her exact words. I may have given the impression I was looking for a story behind the photo but I don't think so. I said to them what I had said to other people when we were in the process of buying the house - that I thought it was really interesting to actually have such an old photo of some of the previous residents. I would love to find out more about them, only out of curiosity. I don't associate them with anything happening now.0 -

Neighbours are often reluctant to pass on info which may upset or unnerve you. The house next door to us sold for a very low price soon after the owner hung himself on the bannisters. We knew that the new people had no idea because they asked a few questions about him having been ill etc. We didn't want to be the ones to tell them so we were non committal but truthful. That said, you may be reading too much into the comments by the neighbour!!0 -
When a place of dwelling is unattended for a long long period of time, other beings will begin to inhabit the place.
Yeah, squatters :rotfl:While my OH was speaking to the vicar I introduced myself to a couple of ladies and honetly this did not make me feel better. I told them we had recently moved and that we had not had a chance to meet the previous owners of the house. One of them told me they had not been there long and had moved out without really telling many people but had apparently gone to Australia. When I mentioned we had a photo of a Victorian family and that I thought it was interesting, they more or less said it would be better to leave the past alone......
OP it's all starting to sound a bit Steven King.. ! I hope you get to the bottom of whatever it is that's causing the noises, and you can relax again in your new home.0 -

My neighbour lay dead on the sofa for 4 days while her husband remained in a drunken stupor and didn't notice. (he died months later after falling downstairs drunk).
When my new neighbours asked what had happened to them I just said they were both alcoholics who died in their 50's. No reason to tell them any more I didn't think.0 -
Just been thinking about the ladies at church and was wondering whether they were older ladies.
Older people can be very funny about the past. I always used to say to my parents 'wouldn't it be interesting to trace our family tree'
Both of them were of the opinion that I shouldn't be digging around in the past.
Out of respect for them, I didn't do anything about it until a few years after they had died.
The only dark secrets I found were concerning babies being born out of wedlock. Nothing to us these days, but to an older generation something shameful.
Maybe their discouragement was to do with something considered shameful, rather than sinister.
Just a thought that occurred to me, so I thought I'd mention it.
I think everyone on this thread wants to get to the bottom of thisEarly retired - 18th December 2014

It really does sound like Infrasound, which does make you feel like a presence is present. It also can adjust temperatures in different places.
Here are 2 links:
(1)Wait till it gets to about 20-30 and see if it makes you feel a bit weird.

Failing that, move the old picture to outside the house for the night and see if that makes a difference.0 -
You want a bet? And this is coming from a atheist...I have seen things happen and believe me if it was anyone else, I as i used to do would laugh at them..But one thing changed all that..
This coming from the person who ribbed people about lying to their kids about Santa on the 'not doing Santa' thread! :rotfl:
I believe in spirits and the after life. As somebody mentioned before; how can people believe in God and Jesus and other celestial beings but not ghosts and spirits? How about the Holy Ghost?0 -
We lived in an old house next to an old pub and opposite a burial ground. One night I was woken at two in the morning by the sound of a muffled drum, shouted commands and marching feet! Ghostly flashback? I looked out of the window to see a troupe of visiting Morris men leaving the pub after a lock-in and marching off to their accommodation. Sorry!0

I was also going to suggest speaking to the 'presence' and explaining that this is now your home and you would appreciate it if they would move on and leave you in peace but I didn't want anyone thinking I was a fruitcake! However, I've seen another couple of posters suggesting something similar so I don't feel so bad!0

It is entirely possible that there's a logical explanation for all the goings on, as others have mentioned. Being an agnostic, and fairly open minded, it's also plausible that you are experiencing something "supernatural". I tend to be a bit of a fence sitter when it comes to religion/spirituality, but I am more inclined to believe in the paranormal due to personal experiences.
In my bedroom, for instance, I often (but not always) get the feeling I am being watched...and not always by the same "entity" as the associated "awareness" and "emotion" (sorry, can't think of better words!) changes...sometimes it's passive, other times curious, and rarely, thank God, downright evil. It's bizarre...I can think about it and not notice it, and other times not be thinking about it and suddenly be aware of it. Anyhow, I thought I was going crazy, but my sister tried to spend a few nights in my room a year or two ago. Turns out she only lasted a few nights and had to sleep with the light on because she felt uneasy/as if she was being watched. Now, I had never mentioned my experiences to anyone - in fact I had no idea she had experienced it until our father asked me if I had noticed anything "odd" in my room, as my sister had been unable to stay there.
Also had other, fleeting experiences that I can't readily explain, and others that I can. Either way, I'd say it's highly unlikely that you've anything to worry about.
My advice would be to voice your concerns outloud to whatever "entity" you believe is there. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better hearing yourself say your issues out loud, and, if there is something out there, maybe it'll quit***edit - the happy butterfly beat me to it. lol***
