This may sound silly, but a friend swore things changed in her weird house when she went room to room playing cheesy happy pop music very loudly. I tend towards a natural explanation, and think the infrasound and mould avenues might be worth exploring (I think the human brain is more mysterious than anything else out there), but good luck."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I had friends who lived in a very old cottage, who heard unexplained noises, they did some digging in to the history and what they found out explained the noises if you believe in ghosts.
The happeneiong in the house wasnt pleasant so if you are worried what you may find out then maybe its best you dont.
i know thats a bit cryptic, but didnt want to go in to detail0 -
I neither believe nor disbelieve in ghosts, but if there was anything sinister in the house I think worse things will have occured to you by now than simply hearing noises....
My suggestions are...
1. Get a pet. Then you can blame the creepy noises on the animal instead. Also they're supposed to be able to sense more than us so if there is something there..
2. 'Talk' to the house if you feel there is 'someone' there, if you explain how you feel it may help.
3. Research the house history, but do this at your own risk. You may find things you don't want to know.
4. Secure doors and other noise sources securely.
5. Get the house inspected for wild animals2012-2013 Deposit target £2663.05/ £3876.74 :j

Just had to reply. I live in a flat where around 80 years back a man hung himself on the stairs, the house has since been converted, but we have all (3 flats, 4 people) seen things and heard talking when nobody's there.
My dog also went through a phase of barking at nothing, literally, not even a reflection.
I decided to burn sandalwood incense in all the rooms for a few days (it's supposed to calm / ask to leave / relax spirits) and its been much better.
Dogs stopped barking, no more odd noises or talking and the 'atmosphere' has gone.
Try it! And good luck!
P.S I don't believe spirits stay to scare us, I believe they stay as they had not finished their lives. I'm not religious at all btw.0 -
Sounds like you have been given plenty of good advice on this thread.
Just a long shot but there are plenty of teenage girls that give their boyfriends a house key to let themselves in. That would explain the internal door banging & 'odd' noises.
In the absence of teenagers you can ask 'guardian angels' (as many as you like) to look after your family. There are plenty of angels all around & they are only too willing to protect those people & others that they are asked to protect.:)0 -

I am a city person who lived for eight years in a house in a tiny village in the Spanish mountains in the middle of nowhere.
My house made all sorts of noises. It creaked, groaned, banged, the wind whistled through the windows. IMHO, this was because it was an old house, it was 'organic', made largely of natural materials, it expanded and contracted with changes of temperature or humidity. Outside I could hear the wild animals (ibex, wild boar and the occasional Iberian lynx), as well as the domestic cats and dogs and the farm animals.. I had geckos on my wall inside and mice in the storeroom.
I think this sort of thing is probably what you can hear. It surprised me as a townee how noisy peace and quiet is.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
