Thank you so much for your replies. The reason I came on here was because I don't want to tell anyone in RL. We have a photo of a family who lived here. I think it would be Victorian by the look of the clothes. They look very serious but I guess that's how they were on photos then, but seem a nice family ie.not scary.
When photography was first coming into use the exposure time (ie 'the click') was MUCH longer than it is now - so the subjects of the picture had to sit stock still - hence the solemn faces.
I don't believe in ghosts, or spirits etc BUT a blessing might make YOU feel better - and that's what's important. Your beautiful, old, creaky home has sheltered other families before yours and will continue to do so.;)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Foscam make IP Cameras that join your WiFi Network. They also have an Infrared capability.
You can set up as many as you like. They are controlled by your PC/Laptop or an App via your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. You can remotely move the camera from left to right, and pan and tilt. Also can be set up for motion detection which will email 6 stills to any email you specify, or record the video, or record the video directy to your FTP server (if you have one). This could be set up looking at your possessed door!
Trouble is, if you were watching that door open and bang shut of its own accord via the ethereal IR camera feed, you would probably 5hit your pants.
Foscam do SD and HD. They are pretty good, I have 3 guarding my own property.

Why do people believe in God, Jesus, bad luck, good luck but not anything paranormal. If one exists, they all exist..
Thousands of years ago a man turned water into wine. That's as believable as a spirit in a place between life and death IMO0 -

I believe in good luck and bad luck, but purely in the descriptive sense it is used in when ascribed to chance and probability. I don't believe luck is influenced by unseen outside factors. If I were to be challenged to draw the nine of diamonds out of a standard, shuffled deck of cards and then proceeded to do so it would be lucky but it wouldn't be as the result of manipulation of supernatural forces.
All the other stuff though, nope, don't believe any of it but I would also say that it doesn't necessarily follow that if one existed, they would all exist. If it was scientifically proven tomorrow that there was a god, it wouldn't necessarily follow that poltergeists were definitely real.0 -
I worked in a couple of houses where there was a spirity feeling about the place. In one house I had the 3rd floor to myself and my friends refused to use the bathroom. I did feel slightly uncomfortable sometimes but would just "talk away" asking them to stop, I was trying to sleep etc It made me feel better.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

I'm sorry that your time in your new home is being spoiled.
I suppose you have to ask yourselves, do you really believe in the supernatural. If so, then if it'll give you some peace of mind, then get the blessing done.
I think you'll still get a lot of noise etc though as that's old country houses for you.
What you mustn't do, if you don't really believe in these things, is let this get out of hand. I don't believe in these things but I still get spooked on occassions, and I have to tell myself to get a grip. One you start thinking about it all, then you just feel worse and worse if you don't nip it in the bud.
Case in point, I volunteer somewhere out in the middle of nowhere with lots of old buildings, and we are often up late at night, wandering across fields and through woods, and round the buildings socialising once the day's work is done. A lot of new people get very very freaked out until they get used to it. The countryside and old buildings just are plain old 'spooky' if it's a new environment for you.
In one section I worked in there is an old cottage and every single other volunteer in my section refused to go in it and declared it haunted, funny noises, bad feelings etc. Which was a pain as some of our stuff was stored in there. I used to go in just fine, didn't bother me, as I've been going for a lot longer than them and I was used to the place being not an empty cottage (as it has been for several years) but a home where very nice people used to live. It's just an old house to me, nothing in there to be afraid of. But some of the other volunteers were genuinely terrified of it. Fear is sort of 'catching'. once one or two got spooked over nothing, it spread to all the others. So why did we have such different experiences of it? they got to the point where they were expecting something, whereas I expected nothing. any noises etc were just old building stuff. To them it was 'creepy abandoned cottage', to me it was a normal house I've been in loads of times that no one happened to be living in at the moment.
Don't wind yourself up over this unecessarily, try and make a joke of it next time you hear something? Get up and go look, nothing there, well, that's because there was nothing there. the 'bad atmosphere' is your imagination running away with you (easy done, very understandable) and you are feeding your own fears.
Enjoy your new home. In a couple of years you'll look back on this and laugh.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

hi....we lived somewhere that felt uncomfortable...wont go into the ins and outs as dont want to sound mad but dh told the presence to p1$$ off and stop frightening us...it was fine after
good luckonwards and upwards0 -
I am noted for my cynicism but i remember as a kid,the house we lived in had a definite presence, more so in one particular bedroom. I remember years later mentioning this to my siblings and they said they had felt it too and yet at the time,we never talked about it. The presence made you feel a certain level of fear,apprehension..as if someone was behind you and yet not there when you turned around. Makes me shiver even now..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I'm quite envious actually! You say you can feel a presence - does it feel benign or malevolent?0

Talk to them. Really. "You were busy last night but would you mind keeping the noise down" kind of thing, tell them your plans, leave the drawings out and let them see what is happening.
If it still worries/annoys you try a spiritualist centre.0
