help with letter refusing goodwill gesture please

Hello there,
I received a letter from Abbey stating that the charges are correct but as a gesture of goodwill they have refunded me £140, etc.
This has now gone into my account already.
Im claiming charges of £620 but was wondering if anyone had a sample letter of what to write now. I still want to go ahead and claim the remaining money but to i accept the £140 also?
Im a little confused!
Any help would be great
Thanks0 -

There is no sample letter no, all you have to do is write back to them thanking them for the 'goodwill gesture' in their letter dated xxxx you are accepting this as part payment to your claim without prejudice and you will be persuing your claim via the court to claim the remainder of the money owed to you.

Hi, i've been reclaiming my credit card charges from natwest, the total amount was approx £300 and they've offered me £80. Is there a template letter to reply saying no thanks, how about giving me £x?
I had a search and couldn't find anything.
Thanks for your help.0 -

Its not complicated enough to warrant a template letter. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Well i guess that's me told then!
is there anything i should include - i.e time scales to reply etc?0 -
I'll pop your post into the thread about wording for a "goodwill gesture".
If you are giving a timescale, always give them 14 days which is time enough for them to receive and reply.0 -
Hi everybody this is my first post and im hoping someone can help me!!! i've followed martin's template letters and time scales to the letter.Sent 1st letter on 25/4/07 with schedule of charges,no reply after 14 days, sent 2nd letter on 12/5/07 giving 14 days again no reply so on 6/6/07 completed claim form on MCOL for £1,483.99 which includes interest and court fee of £120 Totalling £1,603.99. On 25/6/07 natwest acknowlaged my claim. Today i received a parcial offer from Nawest of £1,137.00,thay have not informed the court of this, having spoken to MCOL. I am not accepting this offer,so im hoping someone out there has a templete letter i could use to reply to them,as i dont want to scupper my chances having been brave comming this far!!!!!!!! This "nervous little welsh "girl is looking forward to a your reply. thank you W.G.0

If it is a full and final settlement, write back to the bank, politely refusing it. Continue your claim.

If it is a gesture of goodwill, write back to the bank, politely accepting it as a "part payment without prejudice". Continue your claim for the rest. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
You could write something like this:"I cannot accept your offer of £xxx as full and final settlement of my claim. I will accept this as part payment and without prejudice, but will continue my claim for the balance. I have made a reasonable effort to settle this claim before issuing a court claim, but you ignored my efforts to settle this. Seeing as I have now had to issue a court claim because of your failure to deal with my claim in a timely way, I will now settle only for the full amount of charges + statutory interest + court fee."Reclaimed thanks to this site:
