Arrrggh Amazon using First Class Post for Prime Deliveries

I hate December.

The vast majority of my Amazon Prime orders are sent using first class post these days. I know this topic's been done to death but my last three orders have all been late. Ordered a video game yesterday with good old "guaranteed" next day delivery as we're Prime members. Heart sank when I got the dispatch email with no tracking information available (the sign they've sent it by first class mail). Postman has just been and of course, no game.

Amazon: Sending something first class and writing PRIME on the label does not make it a next day service.

Most of the year it's not a problem and stuff doess arrive next day. But in December that just goes out the window.

Ah well, off goes another complaint to Amazon and if I'm lucky they'll extend my membership by a month.

  • The thing that gets me about it is that Amazon are fully aware that 1st class post isn't guaranteed next day delivery as they state this on the postal options, but when they send Prime items via first class mail they clearly say that it is a guaranteed next day service.

had the same issue this week, twice.

Not impressed to be honest...I email them every time, but they seem to have stopped giving out free months...

I assume that sending an item by first class post is cheaper for them than using tracked 24 hour.

I don't mind quite so much when it's something like a £4 book (even though I pay for guaranteed next day delivery which should mean exactly that). In this case it was a £25 video game so I had my fingers crossed they'd use a proper service. :( Wanted to play it this weekend.

I've sent Amazon a stroppy email as this has now happened with my last three orders in a row.

I did get a free month recently but that was after an order was lost in the post and they had to send a replacement.

To be fair, my order history tells me I placed 54 orders in 2011 and 56 so far in 2012. So even ignoring the orders my husband places on the same Prime membership, I've paid less than £1 per order for next day shipping that has arrived next day about 90% of the time this year.

One year I'll learn that there's no point relying on it in December.

Amazon can do no wrong in my eyes. They are truly Santas own workshop. According to the Beeb this morning, they process 35 orders per second at this time of year and they featured the vastness of their warehouse and its incredible automation . as an example, i ordered some Christmas pressies last Sunday for a relative who lives on an Island in the Med and do you know, they arrived on the following Thursday !

But 1st class is 1-3 working days.

I posted something to be signed for on monday 10th via 1st class. it arrived today!!!!!

And today Saturday 15th a packet arrived from someone which was 1st class, posted Monday 10th.

Thursday 20th is the last posting date for 1st class!!!!!!

I understand RM are very busy at this time of year but no matter what time of year I never count the day I posted something as the 1st working day anyway.

    Yours

In general Amazon are very good. I think it's a legitimate complaint though when "guaranteed next-day delivery" items are sent by a postal service which is not guaranteed to arrive in one day. They should market Prime as expedited order processing/dispatch and "typically" one-day delivery. But I suspect they would then have less members.

    Blah blah blah
I'm sorry to hear that you haven't received your order #[xxx] yet. I do understand that as a Prime customer your order should deliver on the next day from the date of dispatch. In case of any unforeseen delays, it will take a little longer to reach the parcel. This doesn't happen often but when it does, we take full responsibility and try to find a solution. I've now passed your message on to the appropriate department who will be glad to review your comments regarding the delivery service of your order. Customer feedback such as yours helps us to continue improving the selection and service we provide. We appreciate the time you've taken to write to us. We take full responsibility for the delivery of our goods from start to finish and take complaints of this nature very seriously. We’ll replace any items lost or damaged during delivery at no extra charge and monitor our carriers very closely. We realise this incident reflects negatively upon Amazon.co.uk and the feedback you've provided will be used in reviewing the Amazon Prime service.
