Last weekend I went with friends to have a look at Ely in the Fens.
Most impressed, a tourist town with free parking! Picture for the album of new borne foal with its mum and the cathedral in the background.
We finished off at a tearooms on the waterfront. Nice place run I believe by a former antiques dealer, with amusing old prints on all the walls, even in the "smallest room".
As I sat in mine host's sun lit garden, while he did the meeting a greeting job, chatting about his flowers etc. I was away with the fairies musing: "What a civilised way of life, probably does not pay as well as a pub, but it is regular hours and no hassle from stroppy drunks at closing time".
Now I know the truth - another job where hell is other people and you need to go to work in a flack jacket ?
Have a nice day,
Harry.0 -
Your own fault for going to a place you knew was closing at 5 with only 15 minutes to spare. I've been to pubs before when it was past last orders which is a whole 30 minutes before closing and they wouldn't serve, so I don't see why this case is any different - it's the managers perogative to serve who he wants, when he wants.
Also, I really don't think you need to have 6 replies in a row at a time, one will do!0 -
Don't usually read the vent board and I'm also sort of a "newbie" to the site, but this thread IS very weird.:rotfl:
I've never seen people on ANY forum attacked for simply having opposing views. I honestly do have sympathy for your original situation, but the replies on here make me think your blood pressure must be sky high!!;)
Chill out matey!:D0 -
can i just ask without being called names or anything else,(i just want to understand how you feel) how was he to know that you were travelling? did you mention this to him?
i maybe wouldn't have served you food or drink as he was getting ready to close but i would have let you use the loo (what was he expecting you to do to it? pee all over the floor?)
i must say though you seem to be getting very upset by all this, calm down and remember that he's not worth it, even if he gave bad service.0 -
I think everyone detests bad service. And you are entitled to vent about it if you feel you have received bad service.
But you didn't check the opening times, you arrived too late for service, and you don't know that existing customers would be refused the use of the loos.0 -
I can't believe the rubbish spouted on this thread. Of course the OP was right and the owner has no concept of customer service nevermind business sense. Working myself in a customer service/sales enviroment if I had customers come in 15 mins before closing time I would welcome them with open arms if they wanted to spend money with me. Even if perhaps the owner had an important appointment at 5pm then he could of at least let them use the loo. All those disagreeing with the OP then you must of never worked in a customer service enviroment or if you did then you we're probably pretty rubbish at your job!0

 Hang on a minute, lokiman,in your day job as a Barrister,(or is that Barrista?),are you always nice and respectful?
The funny thing is that I actually am a Barrister in my day job, whereas my wife is a Barista. Am I always nice and respectful in my day job? Probably not, to be honest, but I'm not in the hospitality business. I'll put it to you this way: my wife came an watched one trial in which I represented the defendant, and hasn;t been back since because she didn't like me very much.........0 -
Not read all the thread, so don't know if the owner has put his side.
There are at least two sides to every story.
We have no idea of how the OP approached the owner.
As an example
OP : Your website says you are open to 6
Owner : Sorry, but we don't have a website
OP : The information is wrong, give us some food.
Owner : Sorry, just in the process of shutting up, everything has been switched off.
OP : What sort of customer service is this?
Owner : I'm really sorry, if you'd rung to let us know you were coming....
OP : Well as you've messed me about at least let us use the lavatory.
Owner : Oh do one.
It happens.
This is only an example, characters are not knowingly based on anyone.0 -

Thank heavens someone knows what I am talking about (and a few other
decent human posters on here!) - I don't know what planet some of the OPs are on but it does worry me that there are these attitudes in our country and all I can say is I can see the reason why the country sometimes has such a bad reputation for bad customer service.
I feel rather sad and shocked at this discovery. These people have so much to learn about dealing with people in a reasonable way. Do these people really have jobs or are they still at school acting like playground bullies and baying hounds? I really pity them, if they are stuck in their sad childhood!
I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me but the manner of how I have been treated for stating how I despise bad service, is appalling. But I guess if they think bad service is OK, then they won't have the manners to be tactful in their replies, see nastiness in someone disagreeing with THEM and doing exactly what they are accusing me of doing! An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:
