Not if you think about it. 16:45 by the time they've sorted themselves out by going to the toliet and got to the counter, 16:47 deciding exactly what they want, 2 minutes probably locating money (not far off 10 to now.) Then deciding where to sit. Doesn't leave much time to be done and out of the place by 5. Thats very realistic timing. If you watch the public it's amazing how slowly things actually get done.
How do you know?

I'm pretty undemanding and happy to work around problems etc, but I've experienced several cases in the last few years where owners of a business seem to have no idea about customer relations. The worst had to be the curry house in Machynlleth. That reminds me, I need to post on the knowhere guide.
This sort of happening is typical of small time crappy cafes and tea rooms across the UK. It was worse 20 years ago, but there's still a long way to go.
I agree, they were dire, worse still 30+ years ago:eek:
I am English and have lived in Scotland for 15 years - I find the English can be very pedantic and aggressive, and it really stood out when I went back last week, and the Scots to be more laid back, though there are exceptions.
As you say, still not good enough - I dread to think of the impression tourists get of the UK.
Shropshire is a beautiful looking county but people like him taint it!An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Perhaps the waitresses should have stayed on unpaid to serve you. They had no homes to go to.....as i too have nowhere to go at 5pm when i have finished work. I am not a jobs worth, i am a paid employee. Perhaps i should throw them out mid appointment instead.
I have only your tone here to judge by, and if that was your tone there then i am not suprised you were not served. The management always have the right to refuse service you know."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." We were and are extremely polite people and he was the owner at his home - I feel your aim is to stir and attack me, so I refuse to waste my energy on you anymore, seeing as you have rigidly formed and are sticking by your inflexible opinion. You obviously only see things from your point of view alone and show no empathy for a traveller or fellow human being, therefore, I'm not feeding the troll:rotfl:
It is people with your attitude that get our goat
I shall point something out to you, seeing as your customer service training is so severely lacking - employees have the 9-5 attitude, as business owners ourselves we exercise more flexiblity and that is why good business owners do well!
Also, if you are at work, shouldn't you be working instead of annoying people on mse?
Still I guess I am talking to a :wall: and wasting my time

The closing time was 5pm winter, 6pm summer - we didn't know what was considered summer or winter in their eyes and it was a really sunny day.
We were not demanding and as soon as he said we were past their last orders time, which is not on the internet btw, we asked nicely if we could use their loo. We accepted his petty notice about last orders and another couple had just been served scones and tea, so would they have been refused the loo 20 minutes before closing time because he cleaned them and didn't want them used. Anyway he should wait till they are officially closed to existing customers before cleaning them.
The man has problems with people, otherwise he wouldn't have had notices everywhere and decided to be petty about it. He was rude, snotty and generally unpleasant - not the qualities required for a business that works with the public.
I really hope the negative people on this thread encounter this level of bad service and when they moan on here about it, I shall be just as (un)caring to them about it!
Agree 100% with this. My wife runs a coffee shop here in sunny Bermuda, and she'd never dream of refusing someone who'd nicely asked to use the 'facilities'. It's a simple matter of common decency and courtesy. What the hell was he doing cleaning them 20 minutes prior to closing, anyway? I can't really criticize the owner for insisting on having last orders 20 minutes prior to closing, but he certainly has a lot to learn about the hospitality industry. He should have, at least, offered to serve some tea, even if they'd stopped serving food.0 -

Thank you:)
Bermuda is a beautiful place but I don't think a lot of the ignorant OPs know where that is - I know there are many US visitors there and they would go nuts at being treated badly as we were.
I would love to visit your shop when I next visit and hope your business is a deserving success:)An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't see any details of opening hours there. Does that mean they don't actually have a website then?0
