Bird on the Rock Tearoom - Clungunford, Shropshire

We used to have breakfast once a week in a cafe near us. One day DH overheard the owner being mean to a student who had asked for some mayonnaise. The owner told him it would be 30p and the student said, oh okay thanks, I'll do without. The owner started ranting and shouting and saying what did he think it was? A charity? And that he hated having to deal with snotty nosed students etc etc. We haven't been back since.
There are a lot of students round here and in several years of visiting the cafe we'd never seen a single customer being rude or disrespectful. If he didn't like students, why did he open a cafe in a student packed area?
The manager was rude to you and obviously should have let you use the facilities and perhaps offered you some scones to go or something similar. There's no reason why he should have kept his cafe open to serve you a full meal but I'm sure all you wanted was some consideration and respect.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

So would I have been if a party had marched in as I was getting ready to close and demanded service and the use of my toilets.
If someone made a special detour to visit a tea room, knowing their closing times, you'd think the least they could do would be to arrive in plenty of time.0 -
The closing time was 5pm winter, 6pm summer - we didn't know what was considered summer or winter in their eyes and it was a really sunny day.
We were not demanding and as soon as he said we were past their last orders time, which is not on the internet btw, we asked nicely if we could use their loo. We accepted his petty notice about last orders and another couple had just been served scones and tea, so would they have been refused the loo 20 minutes before closing time because he cleaned them and didn't want them used. Anyway he should wait till they are officially closed to existing customers before cleaning them.
The man has problems with people, otherwise he wouldn't have had notices everywhere and decided to be petty about it. He was rude, snotty and generally unpleasant - not the qualities required for a business that works with the public.
I really hope the negative people on this thread encounter this level of bad service and when they moan on here about it, I shall be just as (un)caring to them about it!An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I'd have to assume the last place you reported done more than refuse to serve you because they were closing for the day soon.
I have reported the incident to the environmental health and he was contravening the local byelaws - they were very concerned and are taking action.
The Shropshire Tourist Board took this seriously too.
If people wish to make snidey and negative comments to someone complaining on a vent board, go ahead - why don't we keep the bad service going in this country and affect the tourist industry! No wonder this country is the way it is.
I swear the vent board attracts the trolls! An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I do think it would have been polite of him to have offered you at least a cup of tea, surely that wouldnt have taken 20 mins to prepare and drink.Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

It's an interesting discussion (does one put customers before staff?) but, to be honest, the OP here is so nasty to those who don't agree with their point of view that it's not going to get the airing it deserves. Can I help?0
