Excellent - emailed them last night and got a reply at 8.07am this morning saying an engineer calling round 19th may. I have been having probs with my Amstrad box for over a year but as warrenty had run out i kept getting told i needed to pay a call out charge. I thought i was losing out big time as not in a position to be paying call out charges or for new boxes, this was a god send so thank you very much OP.0

Yes My Thomson Box Fails To Record Certain Programmes But There Is No Pattern To It...just Suddenly Find 'failed' Instead Of 'recorded' After The Event...no Clashes So No Reason For It To Fail. This Is My Second Box That I Have Had The Same Problem With So I Think I Am Going To Send An Email To Mr Murdoch.Thank you to everyone who has helped me MoneySave0

Sometimes we get a "failed" too instead of recorded, if you go into the failed recording it usually says "no signal" thats why it fails. Sometimes we get "part rec" too, same reason, no signal.

Update
Just had an email from Sky they are sending an engineer on 20th May with a new box.
However they did say they couldnot say what make the box will be, but as a few others have said I have been having small problems for the last year and mine is well out of warrenty so they keep asking for call out charges and replacment box charges.
Big thanks to the OP I have only been looking at money saving expert for about a week now but already I have made about £50 with betting loopholes and it inspired us to de-clutter at home and we have made nearly £150 on e-bay.
I think I can say I am now committed to using this site on a daily basis.
I was thinking only last month of paying the £99 for a new sky+ box as I wanted the anytime and so looks like I have been saved yet more money.
Thanks to all involved

I want to say a big thankyou for this thread.
I phoned sky a couple of weeks ago for the umpteenth time regarding my recordings on sky and the juddering picture that randomly happens. The women on the phone had said because we'd done a full defragment twice (which is the one that loses all your planner info) it sounds like I need a new box. I left it as I could not afford a replacement box.
After seeing this thread I sent an email out on Wednesday night and on Thursday had a reply to say an engineer was coming out free of charge to replace my box but could not guarantee which. I called the engineers line as I could not make the date set and they came out today instead, replaced my box (with another Thomson) and replaced something on my dish as well.

No your dish doesn't need moving. If your dish needed moving you would know. You would either have no picture or a bad one. Signal loss can be blamed on the weather some of the time. If its not stormy I blame skyI find that if I am watching tv and get a message to say no signal being received I just change channel then change back again and its ok. For us its only a problem when recording as we don't know of the signal loss until its too late.
To be honest I'm not sure there is much can be done about it.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
i sent the email to sky and got an immediate reply back. they came round and said it was a problem with my dish and the guy realigned it for me. 2 days later the problem happened with another recording. ive emailed again with a final warning before cancellation of my 3 sky boxes if they dont sort it out. apparently a team is coming to my house on saturday!!!
