Oh my gosh, I wish I had found this thread last week instead of suffering the soul destroying 20 minute conversation I had with Sky (it sadly wasn't the Scottish call centre as they're pretty good) on Sunday that actually drove me to tears! Thank you OP!

We had a replacement box as we'd been suffering with failed recordings, skipping/completely unwatchable programmes for ages, obviously when I asked for disconnections I was promptly offered free engineer visit/replacement box.

The box we have now is WORSE than our original one! I can't check what make it is as I'm at work but I will definitely check when I'm home although I am seriously thinking of scrapping the whole thing and getting a freeview with recorder etc as I'm sick of throwing £500 plus away each year (have an additional box). They've told me they can't get an engineer to me until Sat 14th - I can't do a week day because like most I'm a worker and staying at home for the Sky engineer doesn't really warrant time off work!

Now that Lost has finished I might just defect from Sky altogether!
  • Sent an e mail on Tuesday and received a reply today advising an engineer will be out on Wednesday with a free box and I will not be charged for the call out despite my box being over 2 years old. Thanks very much :T
  • Hi, i am going to email them as the voices dont go with the pictures.
But i have got loads of recordings on my box.
I thought that the box is mine, so can they take my box away?
I have been on sky+ for about 3 years now.
    Not sure what to.
    Thanks

sky man due to arrive any moment with our new box
  • Just sent the email!
    Thanks OP!

Speaking to SKY was no bl**dy use!

As my warranty is out there is 'nothing they can do apart from sending an engineer out'....at a cost of £65.....bullocks to that! Ha!
I then said I would be phoning back to cancel after speaking to my husband and nothing was said to try and disuade me...so stuff em! Email sent!

    Hope to report back soon!

Engineer came today, fitted new dish & box. Got 80gig hard drive now so BIG Thanks to the original poster.:T
  • Hiya,
Engineer came today...agreed that the box we had was 'dead'.
Said he would install a new one.
Hubby and I had to leave then to go to work so my mum stayed in for us.

Anyway...it's all up and running again now..which is fab!

    Few of slight worries though....
1, The 'new' box came in a brown cardboard box....Does that mean it's a reconditioned one??
2, Just looked at the system details and once again it's an Amstrad!
3, The engineer has taken away our old, knackered box....Should he have done that? Afterall we had to pay for it when we first got SKY+........Or am I being silly as I've had a free replacement?? Not free really though as we paid intially!

    Just a few thoughts....
