what action if banks do not provide statementsHi All
Been helping a friend claim his charges from Abbey, wrote to them on 1st April, got all the usual stuff i have been reading about, statements for last 14 months etc but nothing dating back for 4 years to 2001, complained for him on 1st July Via the Information Commissioner on line, Can anybody tell me how long it can take after the complaint to finally have a list of charges going back the 6 years, thanks in advance
You should get your statements within a week (or 2) of making your complaint. So you should have them by now. If you don't get anything within 2 weeks complain again

I requester the last 6 years statements from the abbey, payed my £10 and got them through the post. Although now that I am looking at them, they are only from the past 18 months. My boyfriend was added to my abbey account, to make it into a joint account 18 months ago, and they have not sent me any statements from before that date, even though I have had this account for 6 years or so. I dont have to pay for them again do i? Should I just call them?0

what nextDated 10th July, just had a reply from information commissioner,
regarding unfair penalty charges, blah blah blah, regarding the 40 days Quote"We are aware of this and are monitoriring the situation closely".
"the FOS is the most appropriate orginastation to assist you, the FOS can be contacted on 0845 0801800 9 till 5pm.
They go on to say that it is unlikely that the Abbey hae complied with their obligations under the data ptotections act and as they have failed to provide you with this information to which you are entitled.
We will therefore be Writing to Abbey with the details of this complaint. Provide details etc etc etc it goes on forever, end in due course await receipt of informationof which you are intitled to from Abbey in due course.
OK OK OK WAIT WAIT WAIT untill WHEN ????????0 -

hello
for a two year period (2004 to 2006)ABBEY have sent me a summary of bank charges printed on one page which shows no charges (even though im sure i had some)!!! the period before and after this they have sent individual monthly statements, apart from 2 months.
dont understand why they have done this, if i have paid for the statements i feel i should have them all in a monthly format. should i write to them or phone them???? or just go to the ombudsman????
they have already offered me £100 even though what i add up already totals £160.00!!!!!
any advice would be appreciated thanks!!!0 -
thats exactly what i got i didnt get proper statements back which to me was easier cos you could just see your charges and not all the other details on them, but im not sure if thats right now but they did state in their letter that i could use these to get my charges back so they knew what i was doing!0

The bank has no obligation to send you statements if you ask for your charges under the Data Protection Act. All they have to do is send you a list of your charges, but they usually send statements because that is easier. If you specifically asked for statements, then they could charge you £5 per statement for providing them. Why they have sent you statements for one period and a list for another period is a mystery though, and you could ring them and politely ask why.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

Hi Doris, when I requested my statements a few months ago, I too received a print out of charges/ transactions into my account. I think it's because I'd asked for statements up to 6 years back and after a period of time the banks store the info differently. I just used that to list my charges.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012
