I figure that if everything is being boiled up/baked then it kills off bugs and rarely peel or wash, somethings gets rinsed and leeks get a wash.0

I was a mushroom poster on the other thread! I confessed to being a 'peeler'...
My time saving tip is online food shopping, a real lifesaver, and it does save me money as I can take out all those impulse buys at the end when I realise how much they add up to!! Ok today it cost me £3.95 delivery but the shop is a 30 mile round trip from me0

Surely button mushrooms only need a wash, but the big flat ones with open 'gills' need peeling, the skin is tougher and they absorb a lot of unwanted water.Slightly bitter0

When peeling small pickling onions for pickled onions, or to put them whole in casseroles, soak them first for a couple of minutes in warm water. It softens the skins and makes them much easier to peel without parts of the skin tearing off.0

In a house of five males, buy all plain black socks and put them in a basket, no pairing of socks, ever.
I do exactly this! However I do it with the older girls too, so in our house there is 6 people who basically just share socks . The only difference is my youngest son and daughter, and I must admit that this is only because the plain black socks don't fit them (yet:)). 0 . There are six of us too, because all through winter I wear black socks with my boots for work.
Works well....until DH decided when away on business and running short of socks (you would think that at his age he would have grasped the concept of washing socks in hotel sink) to buy some with striped toes and heels!!!! Cue looks of horror from me when they hit the wash basket. Guess what? They go unpaired.....0

The sock thing made me laugh because me and OH do the same, and the ones that aren't plain black just get paired any old way The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
