I rarely peel carrots, and potatoes.

I can understand not peeling potatoes, but how do you get all the grit out of carrots if you don't peel them?

I live alone and bulk buy black socks. Life's too short..... also great when you get a hole in one as you can lob the one without guilt.

All the carrots I buy have lines across them in which there is usually some grit. Don't the ones you buy have this?

I use those sponge/scourers they bring up carrots a treat. I keep one for veggies in a separate pot. http://www.poundland.co.uk/product-range/a-z/20-sponge-scourers/
I also would only use one half of one of those scourers, doesn't need a biggun. Also ideal for scrubbing jacket spuds, or any spuds.

My secret to a happier life; don't take notice of all the nonesense said to perfect a person's life. Those things that cost nothing are always the most enjoyable.

Down grade your expectations, and you'll be much more satisfied with your lot!

to wash tea towels , soak overnite in hot water, fairy liquid and washing powder. Use a plastic container wid a lid eg. haribo boxes, celebrations boxes. Preferably something with a rather air tight lid.......wash in the morning.very less scrubbing to do!!!

Another one which I have just remembered discovering myself by accident (although I'm probably not the first) is to freeze chillies then use a microplane to grate them into whatever I'm making. No more trying to chop them finely then discovering a lump in your food which blows your head off, and you end up with perfectly smooth chilli paste, although it's one step more work than the lazy chillies so perhaps I need to take a further leap into the easy life...
  • Thanks for the ideas, I would like to second the frozen chopped onions tips, also I keep a bar of Galaxy frozen in my freezer, the kids never think of looking there and I can only devour it when I really really really need some choccy because I have to wait until its thawed out...
  • Also, I use the empty ashtray in my car to store secret parking change for when I park and forgot to have change in my purse. (only works if it has a closing lid of course!)
