Have the banks got 8 weeks to reply?!!!

hi people, i recieved a letter today saying Thank you for your recent letter regarding the fees applied to your account. We are currently considering your claim. Given the work involved in assesing your claim we anticipate that we will be in a position to respond within 6-7 weeks, but will endevour to do so sooner if we are able to. Question is should i wait or what, any advice would be good. cheers
Started claim 18th april for £942 plus interest of £131.97
My advice is stick to your timetable if you stipulated one in your letter.
I sent my 1st letter giving them 14days and they replied one week later with a standard thanks for your complaint we will look into it, i immediately sent the 2nd letter saying i will take them to court if i dont get a satisfactory reply within 14 days, i had no reply and phoned them before taking court action, they refused to negotiate a deal and told me to file court proceedings, so i did yesterday.
I personally feel that if you wait 6-7 weeks to hear from them, the chances are you probably will get lost in all the other cases and so could be overlooked, and you have nothing apart from another letter to them to start the ball rolling again and possibly waited another 6-7 weeks before you get to a court date. If you stick to your timetables, they will know you mean business.

I think everyone should read what edinburgh wrote on Page 1 of this thread. The bank are not stalling, the bank are following a process that mean the FOS will not intervene until 8 weeks. Should you wait? The answer is clearly NO. The bank do not wait to charge you so why should you fail to have the guts to take the bank on? You will WIN. Lloyds won a case maybe what you may say? BUT the media have been quick to say that it is the first case won in court(they are WRONG). NatWest won a case in 2005. Have they stopped paying out or losing? No. Stick to your timescale not the banks. They will never wait for you so reciprocate the same way. I have been happily on the losing side for a long time and long may it remain the same. Be prepared, DO NOT let the bank dictate the timescale, and YOU will WIN.0

Hi, I recently began the process to recover bank charges from the Nat West. I used the downloaded template to ask the bank to repay my charges plus interest. In reply to this the bank have stated that it may take them 6-7 weeks to respond. Is this the norm and do i have to follow their time scale? Many thanks.0

If you have a complaint about a bank procedure, then they are allowed up to 8 weeks to investigate. If you want to deem that they have been unlawful in taking these charges then you can make it a matter for the courts to deal with. If you have sent them the 14 days letter threatening court action then sticking to the timescales would be the advice, seeing as you have asked for interest which you are really not entitled to at this stage but which can be used as a bargaining chipKeep right on!!0 -

The letters saying that they are investigating and have 40 days to respond are little more than acknowledgements of receipt. The 40 days timescale only applies if you are going to escalate the claim to the Financial Ombudsman.
If you have not received a full reply by 14 days from the date of your first letter, send them the second "Letter Before Action" letter, giving them another 14 days to respond or else you will start court proceedings.
These days, your chances of getting all your charges back in response to a strongly worded letter are as slim as a size zero model. The first two letters are just to show that you have tried to settle the matter, before you escalated it to the courts or Financial Ombudsman.

ok thank you i will send out the letter saying i will take further action, i cant believe it takes them less tha 24 hours to nap £38 chargers for being a penny overdrawn but weeks to make a desicion0
