keep to your time table. and sent them the next letter as Martin advises. this is a stalling tactic used by the banks'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

hi, my bank NatWest have replied to my letter (downloaded template) requesting them to pay back charges + interest by stating that it will take them up to 8 weeks to investigate my claim - is this usual or should i do something about it? - if so what?0

Can anyone help!
I recently wrote to my back regarding the unfair and unlawful bank charges on my account and gave them two weeks to contact me. I received a letter from the bank on the 14th day, and was told that I would be contacted in due course and that I could wait up to 8 weeks before I receive a reply but should receive a response by no later than the 14th June, Incidentaly if I do receive a response from the bank by this date it will be approximately 7 weeks from my initial letter.. is this normal and should I expect to wait this long?0 -
Actual reimbursement will take a bit longer but you don't need to wait 8 weeks for a reply. Read Martin's article and follow the timescale in there, as you have given them 14 days, now send off the next letter giving them a further 14 days to respond.
Have a read of the thread relevant to your bank, you'll find them linked in the Reclaim Help Thread.0 -

I'm in the process of taking the Royal Bank of Scotland to court (sent 2nd template letter 3 weeks ago) and after I telephoned them for an update, they have advised me that they are "investigating my case and that they are legally allowed 8 weeks to deal with my enquiry/claim"?
Has anyone else been told this by their bank and should I wait this l ength of time (i.e 8 weeks) or proceed now with the court letter?
Would appreciate any feedback/advice, thanks.0 -
Hi everyone,
I am looking for a little advice please, I am upto letter/template 3 with Barclays bank, i sent them a letter dated 23rd May requesting they repay all the default charges that have been applied to my account. I have now received a letter dated 31sy May saying that they are sorry with the charges that have incurred, etc etc..... and that they that they will endeavour to respond within 4 weeks, if they cannot then they will write to me explaining what is happening, and a full report will take upto 8 weeks.
They have stuck by the rules and replyed within 14 days, so do i just sit here and wait now.
Thanks in advance.
Paul

Hello,
Was interested in your thread as I have just recieved similar from RBS this morning. I am just starting on my reclaim and sent my first letter last week. I have recieved a holding letter very quickly advising they will look into it but could take 6-8 weeks.
Do I send my second letter to them after 14 days if no further reply or give them more time?
Cheers

The letters saying that they are investigating and have 40 days to respond are little more than acknowledgements of receipt and attempts to make you give up and go away. The 40 days timescale only applies if you are going to escalate the claim to the Financial Ombudsman.
If you have not received a full reply by 14 days from the date of your first letter, send them the second "Letter Before Action" letter, giving them another 14 days to respond or else you will start court proceedings. If you have not received a full reply by 14 days from the date of your second letter, start court proceedings or wait until you can escalate the claim to the Financial Ombudsman.

so i should really wait until the full 14 working days are up on my first letter before sending the "letter before action"?0
